I can relate to this having grown up in the southern "red neck" so called " "Bible belt" back in the early days when they were first starting to recognize that trans people and transvetites were not crazy. This was also when they were just starting to develop medical methods to allow transition from male to female. At 6 was where I first realized my true inner self and experimented with mom's clothes when she was out shopping at the corner store and dad was at work. But I also saw and heard from the neighbor's conversations and the way "odd" kids were treated by other kids and adults. So I learned early on to hide my thoughts and desires, especially from my dad, behind a masquerade of masculinity. I once almost told my mom about it when I commented on how skillful she was at making her own clothes and she asked me if I wanted her to teach me how to sew. I've alway suspected that deep in her heart, she sensed my true self. In any case, the medical and psychological platforms for trans situations did not exist then. So I continued on locked into masculinty, trying to make nyself fit that mold by going into the most masculine occupations of the military and later in police work. And my true self stayed in the closet.

I’m over it. This was in ‘62 and my transition in ‘79. Mom passed in 87@57y/o

I Have some idea of the pain you experienced. I had to wait until my parents were long dead and buried before I could consider allowing me to consider what i had desired since 2nd grade and proabably earlier if I'm being honest with myself. All you can do now is chose to stop living in the past and be the best you that you can be for you. The hurt never goes away but it cuts less and less with time.

When my father discovered me in a pretty, lacy confirmation dress, it was like this. But more physical. Much more. More than a seven year old should ever experience. That “lesson,” that day lasted twenty years before I could face my parents with the truth. Their horrid behaviour continued, Dad disowning me from the family and forbidding me to ever return, and Mom passively allowing to happen without protest, even me knowing she felt and knew different emotionally, socially and scientifically. They never even told me when mom developed terminal metastatic breast cancer, until she demanded to see me, 24 hours before she died.

This is a stark reminder of the inhumanity of people we should reasonably expect to love and care for us. I am really hoping for the situation to improve , sooner rather than later.🙏🏻💁‍♀️
