Ya... and... farming (wood) village on a river (water) put to the sword (steel) and then set on fire (fire, lol) and ... maybe mass graves representing earth?

atmosphericturtle

The fee is probably way too bloody high… lmao

Diarmuid McGinnity

It says that suffering leaves a root for your next life, seemingly cultivation potential (if not a literal spirit root). If these roots have been stolen, I could see a weird ass ritual imbuing one person with all of this future potential/ luck. Which does sound similar to the saintess

Meredith

I wonder why Grandpa hasn’t done the same with Tian as that demonic eye

Filippo Passeri

I have trouble reading this sentence, shouldn't it be: ...taught them to be better people...?

Filippo Passeri

"Or taught them better people before they became bandits."

Andrew Simpson

I think they were talking about plans while she was still searching. I just think it's supposed to be scattered and frenetic.

Apiris

I think there might be a duplicated scene. Hong talks about going back to the town for the doctor twice in a short period just slightly rephrased

Noah

Tian’s cultivation system has been pretty standard Taoism. Wonder if we’re about to be introduced to some version of Buddhism?? The golden threads definitely hint at Karma. The speech sounds like it could lean a bit more towards Buddhism as well, though Buddhism and Taoism obviously overlap in a lot of places.

Jeryd Greer

I feel a big change in story progression coming. New rules.

Akkido

Would severing the dao from this village also sever and threads of Karma gained from the slaughter itself?

axel jensen

i cannot wait to see where this goes, i smell possesion and fine print you really should read thrice

Ben Nikel

I mean, turning up the spooky value early in a volume is a wonderful touch. It means it's going to be one of THOSE situations.

Ben Nikel

Absolutely. The demon cultists in Burning Flag did fine with sacrificing the people they could reach, but demons do love quantity. However, the attempted possession there is slightly concerning. Means they aren't JUST sacrificing for power; they're also building a beacon to bring something in.

Teach

Well damn, I was hoping to have another could a few more chapters of Tian and Hongs cheerful river adventures. This was spooky

Lochar

Or some Mad God is fueling his stay in heaven...

ioajfidsnmfomds77

Seems like at least one heretic is a Starbrite man

Tom C

Sounds like some demonic cultivator is crating a super formation ritual thingy sucking the benefits from the land to empower their ascension. But idk we shall see TFTC!

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapter. Rough topic, well presented.

Abhi

Elder Feng somewhere probably got a cluster headache out of nowhere and can't figure out why.

Steve Wright

I mean, if the old Saintess in the demon cave can sever people’s fate and eat it, why can’t we do that on an industrial scale? The profits will be huge, totally worth sacrificing a province.

DrSubterfuge

They have to balance saving the villages they can with calling in for backup. Liren going in hot to the local magistrate wearing her sect robes is their way to push it up the chain of command.

Morog T Tiny

Here is a situation that we can look at and say they need to let those on the mountain know about as soon as possible but Tian and Liren don't know. It leaves us hoping for those doing good but suddenly there are so many clouds you can barely see the sun shining there in the sky.

BaguaBrady

I gotta wonder if this will tie into the BBG fake heavens. Seems like a lesser version of the same scheme, cut off and harvest the true dao while replacing it with a lesser parasitic version - that's my guess anyways. Maybe the kid had a moment of his immortal soul coming through with a prophecy?

Codered999

Tian the monkey wrench of fate, coming to hit the ritual right where it hurts when it least expects it. Hong Liren the fiery chicken of ultra violence, coming to kill all the shit that needs killing.

Austin Cagle

Oh yes, the Warby magic touch of "what the fuck was that?", glad to see it again. This Cultivation story was just way to standard..... (Sarcasm)

DrSubterfuge

It sounds like someone is enacting some kind of wide ranging ritual, and part of the process is eradicating innocent villages like this and severing them from the Dao. And yeah collecting it for whatever purpose the ritual has.

Robert Mullins

Somebody is messing with the Samsara Cycle in this area maybe? Or perhaps some other way of cutting things off from their history? ... "Your suffering is an opportunity to clear the sins from your last life, your cultivation might not achieve immortality this life but it leaves a root. And which of the immortals ascended without a root? So you are blessed beyond all others.” ... What the hell was that?!” That was pure, clean well water. But its roots have been cut away.

João Vene

The root cutting thing, did someone sever the village from the dao? Is this some super messed up heretic spell? Stealing their metaphorical potential?

Alexander Dupree

Thanks for the chapter. So some kind of reincarnation connection to the kids past life?
