Sean Shivers

i mean, honestly? Petitioning the gods to remove the emporer is unlikely to work but its not exactly a bad end goal

William Lucero

Lili

DrSubterfuge

I think this dart may have been easier because it was cashing in on the yin/yang imbalance that had built up with the first two

Abhi

So the darts after the second one take way less time? How long do they take now?

Veridescent

Ha, in context its darkly amusing how right that is

Morog T Tiny

So the Magistrate and the Prefect did a runner when they heard of the problems and the Crane monastery agents being present. It sounds like they may know something?

SlaveToMyWhims

The story is going somewhere at full galop, hope it's somewhere interesting, if not nice.

Felix Giron

Mortal air is also immortal air. Paperwork connects everything.

Diarmuid McGinnity

I feel like they’re too principled and for the moment disinterested in romance and sex yo do something stupid (we saw this with Shu). Dao partnership is a forever commitment and I could see it taking years or decades for them. Although we did just witness a shotgun marriage so who knows lol

Gerald Monroe

Reminds me of Charles Stross laundry files, where apocalypse cults try to summon ancient beings. Works out quite badly of course.

Louis Nel

More petitioners is likely to get more attention.

Robert Mullins

These 2 are so supportive of each other it makes me sick. They need to hurry up and declare lifelong partnership before either does something stupid.

Andrew Simpson

Demonic bureaucracy goes hard

ioajfidsnmfomds77

Surely whatever heavenly demon is summoned by mass human ritual sacrifice and a petition written in child-ink will make things better. Heretics man

DrSubterfuge

So if I understand the chief right, they had a problem with the mortal emperor, so they are sending a message to the mad god in the Heavens to do something about it? But he can't have come up with this method on his own, especially since Grandpa Jun thinks this is part of something greater. I have to imagine that the person who gave him the resources for this has a different goal in mind

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapter. Another rough topic. Well presented.

Aadi Narayan

Amazing chapter, I wonder how bandits got access to a ritual like this, they are clearly not that powerful. The descriptions of Liren's need for light really resonates.

Veridescent

It is always good to see the care given between Tian and Liren. I cannot help but wonder thinking on vital energy and the medicine huts arrays if one couldnt fairly easily have capacity building methods, combining the buildings arrays, planted local life, and social practices to movd vital eenrgy to help people recover after various traumas. To make things easier to proccess and to provide ways of coming together as a true safety net. Ah, the childs words make sense now. Some at least of the heretics arent that different to those of the monastery, its simply that comparative deprivation has them try to seek a sense of safety through the most stable rituals they know. All realize the heavens are wrong, but few know a way to communicate the injustice. And so the child speaks of the root of cultivation, its like a inverse of Tians notes on techniques being accruels of qi and concepts in that qi for transformation. All of that qualia transduced to give a communique of how things should be to the heavens. A shame it wont be heeded

RepossessedSoul

I have this idea of like an Eldritch entity that feeds on cultivation and acts like some sort of hive mind, turning just a fre immortals that get seeded out ahead of its path of consumption, being the thing that inspired those heretics.

David Bailey

That is strangely, horribly, worse than I imagined. Not for power... they gave that up and accepted they'd never have enough. Not for perverse pleasure... though they took all they could get, that wasn't the point. But to get the attention of someone more powerful. For... beaureaucracy.

Abhi

Ah, so that's what Grandpa Jun meant. It wasn't the missing roots stuff he's never seen. He's just never seen heretics actually filing a letter of complaint before. Heh

Diarmuid McGinnity

Woah will we finally meet our first proper Immortal, from a higher realm I mean

Bean

Tyftc!

João Vene

The classic method of piling up dead until God takes notice, I guess

Steve Wright

Oh, damn!
