Archit

simply brilliant writing. It made me happy to read.

Doggo

idk if i said it before but ever since little treasure was introduced I am thinking that merit is what grandpa uses to do his magic thats why a shit load of chapters ago he said that tian is gonna get a lot of energy at the temple.

dkpfrog

I absolutely love Zhong! Thanks so much for this awesome chapter in an already amazing work!

Meredith

Intensely satisfying chapter. Thank you!

Jonty

I think wrists is correct. Like wrestling one arm ontop of the other Infront of the body. Like how they do when they wear the big robes (hanfus?)

Gardor

"Tian crossed his wrists and looked majestically out over the river" -> wrists, or arms? Crossing his wrists evokes a strange sort of position.

Daniel Viana Rodrigues

They just crafted an artifact and thought nothing of it, that sword will be powerful as hell

Daniel Viana Rodrigues

That was incredible, one of my favorite chapters from all of your works.

Endgame

Lol "even if you shoved". I still chuckle when I remember that conversation.

Felix Giron

Fabulous chapter for so many of the reasons noted above. The riffs on appearance, power, gender and agency are particularly cutting and bright. First Liren and a castrated middle manager discuss the Emperor's sexual assertiveness and vulnerability when confronted with beauty leading to the imposition of the back palace's extensive barriers to mobility and worldly power. Then a tea service illuminates another Emperor's inability to see merit through ugliness and the Ghost King's achingly benevolent response and apotheosis through merit and the acquisition of an awesome ghost-busting weapon. Would love to read a chapter of Ghost King Zhong taking on some ghost heretics with his crane-feathered sword.

atmosphericturtle

Ain’t no way Tian jinxed it… now their next stop is NOT going to be peaceful! 💀

Liam Zay

That ghost slaying sword they made sounds awesome

Jeryd Greer

Quest rewards: +25 merit, Ancient Yang Tea pet has been added to your inventory.

Jeryd Greer

I’m with a lot of other people here. Tip-Top chapter here. Although waaaaay back in the trash heap the chapter when granpa comes back is still the best. I cried so much I couldn’t read for a minute.

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapter.

Alias

Though that might not be Zhong Kui since Zhong Kui became a god after he killed himself because of his rejection.

Alias

Wow, I didn't expect them to meet Zhong Kui

Peter Baird

Brillant, just brilliant!!

Ben Nikel

Some things are immortal, including the kingdom of Wu, and scary old men that beat the tar out of evil ghosts. Fun take on both history and mythology here!

Joshua Flowers

King Yan discerns meritous acts from wicked ones in a similar way that a cultivator would judge orthodox methods vs heretical ones. If treating others how you want to be treated is a baseline; generosity, humility, and piety will be tallied as merits and rewarded if not by the world around you in this life then maybe tenfold in the next.

Hermit Yarma

Very cute!

BurnNote

The concept of setting merit is pretty interesting, because who decides what that even is? Some god in the heavens? What if you disagree with their judgement? (And also who is it, because they don't seem evil like the Mad God) Or is it some natural force? That means there's objectively correct answers to what is good behavior. Which has implications too. Normally that would be nagging questions in the background with the implications never really considered. But with Warby, and this story, I'm hopeful it will actually come up, and be considered properly.

David Blomeyer

The Dao appears whimsical at times. It grinds at our expectations, instructs us by violating them. If knowledge is seeing patterns then wisdom is knowing that seeing patterns does not make them truth. We both wish to believe in our ability to see patterns and hunger to see patterns that fit our desires, light and dark. These are also patterns, and our struggle with them a component of "the Daobt". Tyftc. Strong contender for favorite chapter.

Robert Mullins

I hope zhong shows up again in the future during the inevitable underworld evil ghost revolt that every xianxia story has at least one of.

ioajfidsnmfomds77

If I had a nickel for every time you two established a new religion I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird that its happened twice

John Smith

I thought One Piece's writer Oda was the only one who could make me feel real emotional attachment to a character in just a single chapter, but you're being added to the list Warby! Love this ghost.

Nicknick

Narrator: “It was not”

EvilLittleThing

Feng told Tian not to create any more local gods, and what does he do? Seriously though, Zhong is definitely Best Ghost, and deserves some recognition.

Robert Mullins

No more merit. Give poor little treasure's eyes a break. What if we blind him by accident.

Robert Mullins

Tian needs a true adversary. A heretical tea-master.

Dash of Salt

Merit to Ghost King Zhong!

Steve Wright

Suppressing evil, promoting virtue. And in this case, promoting the virtuous! What a great chapter!

Robert Mullins

Feng: Why is it everytime I look away for 5 minutes you two establish a new religion?

Joshua Gunty

Honestly one of my favorite chapters in the story yet, truly wonderful. Tftc!

austin kutz

That was really nice. A beautiful chapter, really

Morog T Tiny

This was a great chapter... Merit is gained! Thank you Warby.

Nonnyor Business

I haven't, but the name rings a bell. Was it turned into a movie?

LordAlton

Damnit Tian, why would you say that?!?

Logrus

Some serious "A Gentleman in Moscow" vibes from this chapter, which I LOVE. Warby, if you haven't read it, I get the sense you'd enjoy. TFTC!

Tom C

This was lovely 👏 TFTC

Abhi

That's gonna be a funny letter whenever he sends one to Senior Fu about this.

Ano Ano

What a delightful little ghost story.

Nonnyor Business

He just has to do one last job to do, something terrible he saw in his rookie days in the Imperial Palace...

Al

Based on the last sentence, the next location will be absurdly violent. Any guesses what form the enemy will take? We've had heretical bandits and a heretical musician cultivator.

Colin Groh

Side quest complete tea pet unlocked

Cally JJ

I really enjoyed this, shows there will be variety in the adventures within the journey. If it wasn't for the quite tight timeline of the bag guys plan with every extra day in journey possibly causing dozens of human sacrifices, I would be content if the rest of the volume were just these self contained vignettes from their journey to the capital. I would appreciate an alternate version of the story where they report the incident early on and the local people take over mitigating casualties, leaving their ONLY job to inform the Emperor that stuff is happening.

Alexander Dupree

10/10 good feelings chapter!!!

David Bailey

A lovely interlude. Honor to Ghost King Zhong.

William Johnson

Man I love Warby side quests. Always unexpected and always a delight! Hail Ghost King Zhong!

Alton V

A delightful chapter

Seth

Excellent chapter as always.

WolfWithAGun

Gotta love Tians dedication to "if I don't know what to do, give them tea" Also, am i first? Eh others probably arent loading

KipBR

Little Treasure is really really useful, and has an awesome trait.

David

If the Censor mentions he has only two weeks until retirement at the end of the next chapter I will make such a face
