Oatmeal

I vaguely remember that the type of orbs you retrieve determine your max potential in the path of steel, but everyone starts out at bronze and you have to train to reach that potential level. And I think Tusquo had Steel level potential from the beginning. Might be wrong though. I think it was also mentioned that upgrading your level beyond the initial potential is also possible, but incredibly difficult and almost never achieved. So yeah, Truesteel Tusquo might be a thing eventually.

AnythingAtAll

Two particularly funny bits this chapter. The bit about murder felt like a comedy sketch while the lines that went, "Tusquo lit up with Irunian joy," then "He spoke mildly," wouldn't be out of place in a more comedic and lighthearted series. Hooray for cutting through bureaucracy! I'm guessing Tusquo is the leader of the government employees, since there's no way he's just a paper-pusher if he'd been trusted with Irun's state secrets from Interludes Beta. I didn't realize you could upgrade your Path. I even vaguely remember Tusquo mentioning in some of the earliest chapters that it was impossible. That has very interesting implications. Tusquo could one day be a Truesteel. I think the Path of Steel also functions like a micro Class if this is the case? Once someone maxes out their Path level, they move on to the next stage. That, or his Path simply upgraded from taking Kai's back then. I'm disappointed we likely won't get another monster hunt in Irun, but I suppose it's never been the series' style to have monster hunts close to each other. I'm not sure how the Birtaegal mercenaries will prove a challenge without similar political plays that had already been done on the Earth Union, but the overarching goal of kickstarting Irun's rise back to power is still flexible enough that this visit is most likely going to be more productive than beating up a bunch of bandits. In particular, I'm interested about that diminishing pool we got a glimpse of in Interludes Beta.
