I want to follow this up with a warning I guess. The Color Purple and The Green Mile are both amazing stories. But they have similarities to Shawshank in that there are dark parts of the story that can be difficult to watch. Just letting you know in advance if it makes a difference for the type of movie you want.

I think you should do another powerful Tom Hanks movie - Saving Private Ryan. I also think that - after Halloween related movies are over - you should watch Schindler's List. If you thought you cried alot during Forrest Gump, you won't be able to not actually have tissues for this one. After you watch it and you are ready for another movie about the same content, you can watch Sophie's Choice and Inglorious Basterds.

I just watched on youtube and came over here to comment. Discussion of this movie could go on forever. But my favorite scene is when he meets John Lennon. I know you've reacted to the song, but did you recognize that Forrest's comments during the interview are the Lyrics to "Imagine"? I feel like I've already won the Rob Squad lottery that you watched Romancing the Stone, but next movies I'd recommend mentioned above and many times are "The Color Purple" and "The Green Mile".
