This was such a cool topic! I think that the allegedly bi man/older woman trope (especially if/when these are pr relationships that stick for a minute) boils down to the man signaling that he is progressive by doing something ~unique~ or unusual without actually alienating consumers with trad values in the way that an openly same sex relationship would. Not saying it’s such a significant act that they’d be with these women, because 40 or not, they are still hot- just that this could also be the pr angle that sells to everyone 🤷🏼‍♀️

There have been rumours about Gerard Pique but when he popped out with the much younger girlfriend it kinda made me think he was just a typical athlete guy. Shakira is an absolute goddess so the older/younger dynamic might not have seemed so obvious.

Also I feel what you’re saying about the “girls and the gays” conversations feeling like they’re more about being attracted to men rather than one’s own gender. Sometimes I feel excluded from those conversations even though i’m a girl because i’m a lesbian and don’t like men. When I was closeted I used to feel pressure to date men to be part of “the girls and the gays” and truthfully there are some people who seem way less interested in me as a person now that my life totally de-centers men
