I do find the wish for people not to be “bad” and not need to be “cancelled” so relatable like i wish people kept more opinions as just thoughts lmao, i’ve stopped speaking to so much family because it’s been really awakening to know what they think or their values now that i’ve become an adult, so i love that this podcast is a space where very parasocially i can listen while going about my day and hear you guys discuss and healthily disagree on things and discuss things sincerely also shrinkflation is so wild but also just with the practice of paying more for worse products or service, like my most “karen” pet peeve is that kmart in australia took note from overseas shops and places the checkout in the center of the shop and only has one or two staffed checkouts and it makes me irate, i don’t love having to scan my own goods but i wouldn’t be so mad if the machines were always broken/saying error like even the retail therapy is worse and all this stuff only happens because companies want more money

Was just having an argument with my mom and brother yesterday about how hard it is to exist rn with how expensive everything is. Living under this current stage of capitalism is rough, every service and product is worse. We should definitely all buy less stuff (for the environment, budgets, ect). But it’s hard when it feels like you’re getting scammed at the grocery store and for basic services. Also, I have been thinking a lot about how Bush after 9/11 was like go buy things as your civil, patriotic duty. That is to say, my partner and I (in our 30’s) definitely depend on the Nintendo Switch and sugary cereals to cope. Side note, would love a more dives into consumer culture/late stage capitalism/planned obsolescence. :)

Also with shrinkflation I notice it a lot for skincare packaging or bulk items where the boxes look like the internal products will be a larger size but then 90% of the box space is just packaging.
