Late to the chat but I love Reputation so much. It's one of her best albums, the tour was amazing, the outfits during that time were peak. I had a different understanding of the album. It wasn't about her not caring about her reputation. It's very obvious that she does. It's about what happens to someone who is a people pleaser and their reputation is actually everything to them when the public turns on them. The whole point of it is that she cares more than anyone else.

I am a swiftie so I am not going to be unbiased but I have always found that part of her charm. It's endearing, like very obviously a good girl trying to be wild and I love it. Her vigilante shit chair dance during the eras tour is the peak of this. It's cheeky and fun, kind of like a rocky horror show dance number.

Unpopular opinion: Jojo’s “Karma” is 10x better and more fun than Taylor Swift’s “Karma.” I was glad to see that Jojo broke the audience turnout record for pride fests in Chicago and Miami.

These are great points. I agree with everything you’re saying. Jojo has been so exploited and manipulated yet the public doesn’t seem to empathize. Her parents seem awful.

unrelated to having a bad girl era but I think Jojo Siwa and Meghan Trainor are similar-they both don’t seem to have stans in the same capacity that they have haters and it seems their biggest crimes have been being annoying and not aspirationally hot

My hot take is that people are going to deeply regret bullying Jojo Siwa in the next 5-10 years. After watching her CHD interview I really believe there is going to be a tell all in the next couple years once her frontal lobe finishes developing and she finally pieces some things together. She is soooo close to understanding that she was exploited and taken advantage of by every adult around her but just isn’t quite there yet. I really feel bad for her. I think what sets her apart from other child stars like Miley, Ariana, etc, is that she didn’t get to grow up with her audience and her audience eventually grew up without her. She’s always exclusively been a YOUNG children’s entertainer, like 2-10 years old, which didn’t allow her the space to explore her sexuality at a typical age or reach those developmental milestones at the same speed as other teenage entertainers. Imagine being 14, 15, 16 and having to dress up as and act like a toddler all the time as well as having a career where you perform for them. And being queer on top of that? That’s gotta do some damage to your psyche. I find it ironic that even though she is in the same industry as the quiet on set kids, the empathy isn’t extended to her. Probably because she doesn’t fit the “perfect victim” narrative…..yet.

I was so disappointed when I found out- rep tour was bombastic and amazing. Ugh, I’ll report back here to update if it ever returns to Netflix ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And again, amazing episode 🙏👏

I think a dance mom’s episode would be a hit!! Kelly and her daughter Paige sued Abby Lee Miller, there was a lost episode where they had the young girls dance almost topless, Abby was arrested for fraud and it’s rumored that Melissa got a sweetheart deal and confessed to everything that locked Abby up so she (Melissa) wouldn’t also need to go to jail. lol if you can’t tell, just like many other Gen Z girls I grew up on dance moms and had a fan page.

i watched a youtube video the other day on this topic, and the creator said "ariana grande & beyonce aren't bad girls. they're good girls doing bad things" and i feel like that's why ariana's switch up doesn't hit like a rihanna. she never fully became a bad girl. she's just a good girl who likes wild sex

I really appreciate how you talked about JoJo in a sympathetic way considering how she's become the internet's punching bag. I'm pretty neutral towards her as a celebrity, but I feel bad for her. I remember one of the first things I heard in regards to her was her talking about dealing with trichotillomania. That's a compulsive disorder thats related to OCD and anxiety and can absolutely be a trauma response. The internet has the capability to acknowledge mental health issues and the negative impact of Dance Moms, pageant shows, and what happens to young children when you put them through the entertainment industry. But because JoJo is I guess cringey? and not a perfect person, all that is forgotten for the sake of having an easy target to bully. I can definitely see her being the type of celebrity, where if down the road something awful happens to her, the internet narrative will turn around and be like "Oh she actually had such a hard life!! She experienced so much trauma! We actually really loved JoJo!" But who knows! I just hate watching a young girl get bullied.

Back then, her dad, Billy ray...always seemed like a clean cut kind of guy, and you would not have expected that from Miley. But then again, maybe you should have. either way, I think she's come a long way.
