Actually we're supposed to compare Xiao Xingchen and SONG LAN to Wei Ying and Lan Zhan (also the two are cultivation partners which is similar to marriageπ). You don't see many of the parallels right now but you should see them when you see them again :)

Xue Yang is so hot in the Untamed π€©, although he is a psychopath. Meng Yao's backstory was briefly mentioned in the scene at the beginning of the lecture at the Lan clan. He is actually the illegitimate son of a prostitute and the leader of the Jin clan, so he is the half brother of that "peacock" that was engaged to Wei Wuxians and JiangChengs sister. People always pity him because he lives as a servant because his father doesn't recognize him while his half brother lives in luxury.
