I think her wanting the new father gone is the reason why she starts, but once she saw the picture on the wall...it became a test. Bev is horrible.

Bev definitely poison the father. You can read it on here face the whole episode! Why? I think due to the Monsignor’s dementia, Bev may have had undue influence over the priest before his trip, and wasn't really happy when the new one showed up. So she planned ridding herself of the newcomer by any means necessary, not knowing he was Pruitt. The poison was already admitted by her, before finding out that he is Pruitt by looking at the picture on the wall.

I've enjoyed these first few episodes so much that I cheated and went ahead to watch the whole thing. No spoilers but I figured out one important reveal by the middle of Ep. 2, but their were still still plenty of surprises that I never could have predicted.

It's a fun part of these Mike Flanagan shows, finding the actors from his other works. One that I totally blanked on was the doctor being Mrs. Dudley, even though there wasn't even any makeup or aging/de-aging involved. At least Riley's dad and especially the doctor's mom had some de-aging to do first.

Leeza's speech forgiving Joe kills me every time. And, again, Hamish Linklater absolutely kills it. And I like Erin and Riley's relationship. After all those years apart, they just easily fall back into familiarity. Reminds me of a few ex-g/fs and me where we've remained friends and whatnot. And FUCK BEV forever.

I have a theory on why he died in terms of the question about the lore of certain things talked about in the commentary :) I will wait til the next episode coz there's no way to talk about it without potentially spoiling something for people who haven't watched this one yet.

Wait I did not realize that Joe is Mr. Dudley!!! How could I have missed that. But yes, absolutely enjoying Robert Longstreet's portrayal! Love that Flanagan brings back the same actors so you can really see them shine in so many different roles! -Sam

How did Father Paul die? His death seemed awfully similar to another death. Beyond that, they don't given us enough info to answer that definitively. It's fun to think about, though.

While I agree that Father Paul is a great character, my favorite ACTOR has to be Robert Longstreet. Here as Joe Collie, and in Hill House as Mr. Dudley. I would watch this man read the phone book and beg for more when he was done.

I assume Joe was drunk somewhere, randomly fired his rifle, and it happened to hit Liza. Kind of like idiots who fire guns in the air when partying and end up killing someone 2 blocks away. Oh, and fuck Bev.
