Interesting. That's what I've always susspected. Ironically, I have lots of friends in Philadelphia and New Jersey who aren't even Italian and get a ton of the subtleties right away.

This is so true. I'm Italian American here but grew up in the midwest without a lot of Italians around, and so much of this show was a mystery to me.

I remember watching that Geraldo special when it happened, and I'm on my third or fourth watch of the Sopranos, and I STILL didn't put that together. Thanks for your comment, bro!

Not relevant to this episode, but Rolling Stone just ranked The Sopranos #1 on their Top 100 shows of all time. Breaking Bad came in 3rd. How I envy you guys watching this series for the first time…😊 I wish I had one of those Men In Black probes to erase my memory and watch it again completely blind 😜 Keep up the great work!

Loved the confusion on the Schmitts' faces when Tony was trying to explain the difference between Italians and white people )the mayonnaises or the 'Merigan) and Italians and wonder bread Italians (eating their Sunday gravy from a jar). Sometimes I wonder how anyone outside of the Northeast gets any of the subtleties of this show at all.

I think the sand in the box that Tony gave Cusamano was a joke referencing Al Capone's vault. Back in the 80s Geraldo Rivera hosted a live TV special where they opened a vault that was owned by Al Capone and supposedly hadn't been opened in all those decades. It took hours and the whole time everyone was speculating on what might be in the vault, money, gold, imaginations ran wild. Finally they got it open and it was literally nothing but sand and like some empty soda bottles and stuff, and then Geraldo just ended the special, it was hilarious.

Monday has somehow become my favourite day of the week! Still so much to look forward to. The next 3 episodes are my favourite from season 1. And they lead wonderfully into "full-strength" Sopranos in season 2. Can't wait!
