Honestly I wonder if there's any chance at all of Sieg pulling a Leif Erikson and setting foot into the Americas.

Amerdism

Thats not true, spreading east wouldn't overstretch sieg because thats basically what happened in reality, the vikings set up trade with the rus and basically came to be the rulers of the rus (thats simplified) and expanded their lands to form the kievan rus state, saying sieg would be overstretched and thus unable to take over the rus lands is just not true and denys reality somewhat because it kind of happened, generally at this period there where no true powers in the region and the lands comprising the slavic nations where more a collection of small states mixed with steppe peoples vying for dominance, then the vikings showed up and did their thing. I'm not claiming to be well read on the east viking history so I'm going of what I know, and I know I'm simplifying some things.

Donte

I don’t know it’ll that work unless his population gets bigger to manage all that massive land and he’ll have to get some he trust to oversee it (maybe one of his sons one day)

Donte

He doesn’t have to spread east because that would leave him too overstretched, he could send out people to start recruiting Rus people especially ones of his faith or ones who are willing to convert to join his lands, give them lands, tax concessions for like 3-5 years, incentive all his people to start making more children and if they make more than a certain amount than they’ll be rewarded accordingly. You have to encourage people to want to strive better or increase their population massively.

Donte

Yeah he needs to ensure his gods are around long after he, his kids, his grandchildren and great grandchildren are gone, otherwise it’ll just be another repeat of Christians invading the ‘evil pagan’ lands and forcefully converting them via the sword.

I'm not equating size to power, my primary point was population, we know from earlier in the story that scandanavia only has like 1 million people living in it (might be misremembering but its a 'small' amount compared to places closer to the mediterranian). As sieg has pointed out before, his efforts defeating one army are useless if his enemy can just raise another easily enough. While the isles my help off set the problem of numbers it likely won't be enough, thus my suggestion of going east, the populaion is more spreadout but the disunity in the area will make for easy pickings for sieg. He can't rely on infighting solving his issues (as he already said) , if anything he has to worry about his presence uniting the romans against him as he will be a common enemy if he steps on there toes too much in such a situation.

Gawain

He needs to codify the worship of the Gods and write down their stories and traditions. Fuck snori sturlson

I'm not saying he shouldn't expand through his area -- I'm saying he should expand east. Norway, Finland, and into the territories of the Kievan Rus.

Donte

Yeah but expanding into Russia is further away and would require more manpower and resources when he can just expand around his area. Get Norway, Sweden, Finland, baltics, maybe saxony and expand into England, Iceland and maybe also get Scotland and Ireland.

Britain started out small too. Then they figured how to project power without out numbering their enemies. It's how a country uses It's strengths and minimizing weakness they succeed. Don't mistake size for power. The Franks and Roman's are pretty meh in terms of ability without people like Charles the Great. They are going to be fighting each other more than the northmen.

Adrian Gorgey

I hear a lot of people talking about how to expand, but no one has mentioned the obvious -- expand east into Russia!

Siegfried"The Wolf-Kissed"Erikson, Father and Founder of the North Sea Empire, Defender of the Norse Faith and First High King of The Norsii. About time Denmark is small potatoes compared to what he's truly capable of ruling. The Historians are gonna have a blood-feud over who had greater impact over Europe between Sieg and Charlie.

Amerdism

Everyone seems so focused on a North Sea empire which is too small to stand up to a returned Rome, it’d be more realistic for sieg to go in the opposite direction (like real life) and conquer the Slavs and the Kievan Rus, that and the North Sea empire would likely be able to stand up to times might, less developed but that takes time to correct.

Donte

Only thing he should incorporate southward is saxony since they share the same culture and religion for the time being. Other than that yeah England, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, should definitely be his as well.

Ben.K15

Honestly it would be in his best interests to not expand south through Denmark, and just make a massive navy and a border wall to make the great wall look like amateur hour. Or at least a good wall of castles He’d be free to raise an army and raid without much fear of retaliation. Expand eastwards if anything

Gawain

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, England, Ireland, Scotland and Finland. Go forth and Conquer

AskAskNOT

Hell F Yeah!! Make Norse mythology great again! lol I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. A great chapter as always IdeasGuy XD

Donte

Hmm North Sea empire? Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, saxony, Britain, and maybe the Baltic’s. That could potentially rival a restored Roman Empire. Also hopefully by next chapter or two, we wrap up the Roman arc and go home for revenge and conquering!

Ben.K15

North Sea empire anyone?
