Yeah, no. Even at home able to pause this is hard as hell if there's no one there to show you how you should mix paint and put it on the brush and then canvas. Getting the canvas appropriately covered in the right amount of liquid white is easy, using the big brush to get a bit of phalo blue and swish around a sky is easy and relaxing. But when you pick up that motherfucking pallet knife and try and get the roll right and then try and get it onto the canvas without it fucking up. Nope, it got me "Markiplier raging at bad controls" mad and couldn't push past it. Spent 300+ dollars on everything in total before realizing I could never do this because of my autism and the feeling and messiness of oil painting. Bought a tablet instead and actually CAN do art, complete 180. Then I got immediately depressed because Bob never got to see the technology that allows a complete baby novice like me to make something pretty and have a modicum of confidence in their work but more importantly we never got to see if he could have taken to it and what he could have made with it. The Joy of Painting and Bob are what got me into art and actually motivated me to do it.

My favorite part, which I think is the least infuriating and is super awesome, is how they are using little to none of the actual tools Bob Ross is using. From the canvas board, to the brushes, to the palette knife, none of it is the right tool. Gives it a real "I substituted kale for carrots in my cake, why did it turn out bad?" kind of vibe 🤌

I’m honestly really impressed with Arin’s. Every time they started out looking like a toddler’s smudges. Even in the middle it looked like it’d be terrible. But every time he turned his finished canvas around it was a beautiful coherent whole. Yes, chaotic, but it no way bad. I’d be happy to have any on my wall

Considering they dont have thinner this turned out very well! Having a dry canvas (no thin layer of wet titanium white applied to the canvas) also really affects the technique.
