Chapters coming, edits coming
🕑 Added 2024-06-18 00:52:17 +0000 UTCI've been going down a rabbit hole of 1800s census data and the university of Missouri prices and wages archive to learn more about the nitty-gritty details of cowboy life. I wanted to clear my head before I start the final stretch of Unfathomable Power book 2 and kind of bit off more than I anticipated.
With that said, I have some edits to make to the American Eldritch chapters that I've put up. Basically I wanted to call elves "natives" because they are native to the new world America finds itself in but I ran into some problematic trouble when I thought about "...well what the fuck do I call Native Americans?" Having two groups of people called natives would be confusing and irritating. So I erred on showing deference to real people with real history and I'm calling elves something else. I'm workshopping words with a friend who is a better judge of this stuff, as I am whiter than Casper.
The wild west is an incredibly fun setting but it also was a period of time awful or downright horrific for anyone that wasn't a White Male and I don't want to diminish the peoples of that time, unknowingly or not.
So if you go back to those chapters and see changes, that's why.
I have a few things to get out of my head, which should be done by the end of the day (tomorrow at the latest), and then I'm back on Colm's big fight.

This is an interesting situation, since you are trying to be accurate then "Indian" would have been right for the time period despite being wrong as hell in hindsight, which would leave open "natives" for the elves, but since it is a fantasy story people will probably be angry if you choose to keep that bit of historical racism. Lands you in an awkward spot of having to decide when you want to be historical and by how much.

If you want an overview about the history of indian removal (genocide), I can only recommend the video: "They were just in the way,Indian removal" by the channel "Knowing better" It's informative and well researched and gives you a good overview over what happened, and his sources are linked in the description for further research.
