February Progress Update!

Comments

Love the update, mostly Neon of course, even though that this update was more about other things. Actually, what happened to Neon's blue lipstick ? It doesn't show on the images you showed in this update, i really liked it, but then again she looks way too hot without it as well. Would be great if we could adjust that :D Also how will you allow us to play with more than 2 chars? Will we be able to choose or at some point in the story some chars will be unplayable?

...I'm still rooting for you guys, Ero. Here's hoping I can sneak one more pledge past my idiot parents so they don't start asking more questions. Here's to February's grand leaps and bounds in progress, and to a (hopeful) full v.06 release by the end of the month or beginning of next month...And here's to you, AltairPL, Ubercharge, and anyone else working tirelessly on this wonderful gem...May the days ahead be better and brighter than the ones before, and may the day finally come that we can do away with the nonsense that is the RPG Maker's bullshit. Here's to progress, and to good health to all of you. Cheers, my friends.

It doesn't really matter what you do in address bar - just select it and press ENTER and it should work... it's the only way some things on imgur work for me.

What worked for me was removing the "https://" in the address bar.

all i got as noticable stuff was (includes onyx)... MY WORLD IS FINE NOW ! thx <3

its about areas of visual detail vs areas of visual rest. here is very good explanation at 12:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMH_J_vcoqE

To me that seems like the most logical option. RPG Maker games aren't CPU heavy to begin with AFAIK and hard drives are pretty expensive whereas RAM is cheap. Would the game have to load the lighting effects in real-time every time a portrait gets drawn or is it stored in memory? If it's the latter that's only a few instances of lag throughout the whole game if any.

We've been using the Steam specs surveys. They're have a much bigger sample size than we'd get. The better option would be to use the RAM intensive one -- it makes far more sense because it'd potentially make the game 1/3 of the size. It works by using a much smaller set of portraits with pre-rendered light groups and blending their intensity/color in real-time. It really depends on whether we can load those layers and do that in real-time, otherwise there'd be lag when portraits changed.

Maybe setting up a survey for your Patrons, asking about the Specs of our computers, then you will know if your target market has lots RAM, or an excess of hard disk space.

I had the same problem. Refreshing, reloading etc. had no effect at successfully loading. I found that copying the address then pasting it into a new tab/window allowed me to load the page correctly.

MangoFishSocks

I get a 404 page 80% of the time when I click any imgur link that's on this Patreon page. Refreshing in any way, including closing the tab and clicking the link again directs me correctly to the imgur page with the image.

I don't think he meant that kind of detail.

To address some of the portrait lighting questions/comments: - Map portraits will be lit with the same system we are going to use for battle. This means character portraits for conversations and such will have lighting that suits the current environment (for v0.06 this will include Onyx :D). - We have a few diverging ideas on the best way to handle this portrait lighting from a technical standpoint. Once scaled to the expected required assets of the full game, one of these ways would require a lot of hard disk space, and the other would be more taxing on RAM. - There's no technical advantage in implementing either of these systems for v0.06, so we'll just be hard-baking all the lighting into the various portraits. The goal is to make everything look as good as possible and by the end of v0.06 we will better know what our lighting requirements are for this new style. - Not all environments will be as dark as this :D. The new look is meant to have a retro cinematic vibe, so we have to think about lighting more from a film perspective (luckily we have the perfect guy for that). Keeping that vibe while still making the goods visible is part of the task at hand :D.

Yeah the best solution is to just hit CTRL+R or the 'Reload' button that appears if you're using Chrome. Is this happening for everyone? We're wondering if imgur is doing this as a lame attempt to block incoming traffic from Patreon.

nice, someone played starcraft, gosu means God Of Starcraft Universum :)

The light and shadow are everywhere and will make everyone else shine in the same light. I think Malise is simply the best choice for a shown reference figure, because she is also one or the main character. Of course also because she is incredibly sexy ;)

Mostacho

It wouldn't be nice to see everything, the eroticism is more if you can't see everything and sometimes you have to or may imagine something ;)

Mostacho

simply update the site in your browser then it should work.

Torsten K

For some reason most of the imgur links do not show the pictures, says that there are errors. Everything is looking nice on what I can see.

do we also see onyx like that in new light? =P

Hmmjon

shadow is good but i see less details of character

Badguy292

This looks awesome!

i support this project over 1 year. And the progress is simpy stunning especially for a so tiny Team! The newest Malise images looks nearly real!!! Keep that great work go on and no haste, many ask for the release but the quality is in my opinion unique in the hole E-Game scene. If in the end the quality at this level, also importent the quantity growing this will get a beast of a game and i will support as long as it takes :) ps i cant wait so see the finish Neon Model the armor look great but the missing Lipstick and Eyeliner look strange :D

it looks amazing as hell! cant wait to see BattleR2, keep up the amazing work and we will wait for as long as necessary so everything works well, also congrats on enty

hope you like new update, took us a lot of work and hard decisions to come up with better Malise, as well as new maps workflow R&D, Thanks for patience, it takes a bit longer, this is the time of important long lasting tech/artistic decisions that we wont be able to change later, so we better get it right

I am glad to see steady progress, keep it up.

Incredible stuff guys <3

Glad you think so! Ubercharge has been pushing me to get out of my cartoony mode and use darkness more effectively.

Mostacho

It really looks more and more breathtaking. These light and shadow compositions, the colors look so fresh and authentic. So much qualitative progress every week, simply incredible.
