Wheel menu devlog: In-game editing
🕑 Added 2023-05-20 08:13:56 +0000 UTCHi people! I've been working on this stupid wheel non-stop. Today I present you the in-game editing feature of the wheel menu: basically, when you open the menu in inventory/magic inventory, you enter an "edit mode", where left/right click becomes adding/deleting items from wheel, respectively. You can additionally add new wheels to the current wheel set by pressing a dedicated key. The system is pretty self-explanatory so I'll just showcase it in a vid.
Does this mean the wheel is finished? Honestly it's probably 20% of what I expected it to be. When it reaches 50% I'll make a beta release for you, and let's hope I can get 80% of it done by July when I can make a public release. I'll be busy starting next week due to an upcoming internship so progress won't be as fast, but I'll put effort into it whenver I have time. Making this wheel is pretty fun :)

I think I have run out of buttons on my controller for things so the only way I can see using this wheel is by replacing the favorites menu entirely. Having the up dpad for weapons/magic wheel and the down dpad for an items wheel would be sweet. I guess you would also have to have those two buttons work as hotkeys for adding things to the wheels while in the menu. I would just have to train my brain not to use them to navigate in my inventory.

Definitely possible! Although I believe the wheel should be able to functionally replace the favorite menu.

When you say "the menu", I assume you mean the wheel hotkey? If so, I was planning to have my wheels on controller bound to dpad up/down to replace the favourites menu, but this would then interfere with menu controls. Would it be possible to have an optional fallback mode where you press/hold the favourites button (for example, but probably easiest on controller) then choose a wheel hotkey, instead?
