I always think about this show as a coming of age story. Sometimes the characters make crazy decisions because they are young and sometimes the characters show maturity, but it is not a constant growth, rather flashes of both. I also don't always love all the anime stuff, but I do like how the tone evolves with times as the characters do and in a way that feels true to growing up.
