This is definitely going the chainsaw man route. Anime take many years to finish if they ever do, most of the time they get dropped at some point and you have to read the manga or light novel to finish the story

Everything I've seen is that it'll be twelve episodes for season 1. Whether or not last week's episode 7.5 counts towards that, I have no idea but I sure hope not.
