Yah, Laral is a fascinating character. I don't know if its intended by Brandon, but I think she is a pretty good picture of someone who hasn't broken from her own privileged perspective and then weaponizes that privilege and her legitimate suffering to hurt others.

Not all boats are female. It changes by language, including languages which would be considered western. For Lirin I think it counts as selfish if you are doing things for people you like which they would not want you to do. (also in a lot of Robin Hood versions he does not give what he steals away)

I feel I should point out, Lirin doesn't want anyone to fight in the war, he just admits that its inevitable given the circumstances.
