Kaladin internalized the image of himself as a slave. It became a crucial part of his self-image and the pain he carries. Lopen intentionally refused to let it define him in the same way. It was something that happened to him, not who he was.

Does this chapter clear things up about kaladin's scar? He's unable to get rid of it cause he's a slave in spirit. The lopen was able to heal his missing arm because he never viewed himself as a one armed man if that makes any sense. That might not be the best way to say it but it highlights a difference in mentality
