Well, that, and so many things are important in hindsight that are easily glossed over. The Laboon story seems like a cute little story until this moment. A LOT of One Piece is like that.

the recaps are obvious filler as well, but you cant forget about every 50~ episodes a year has passed so people who watched it back then might not have seen that since years and only saw it like once on tv

I've been saying it before: Thriller Bark is awfully padded sometimes, but it has some of the best humor and, now I can say it, a jawdropping reveal. What more can you want from an arc? (ok yea maybe tighten it up a little and just remove 90% of Absalom but still)

Don’t listen to anyone who says arcs should be skipped. Could some things be tightened up in the arcs? Sure, but Oda is always going to drop golden nuggets every time. Nothing happens in this arc, but Oda definitely still has those nuggets like the Laboon moment for us to relish in.
