What the “traumatizing and keeping people in fear” segment of this episode reminded me of was the movie “The Village” that I rewatched recently; where the people don’t leave the village because of monsters that live around it; and they have to follow very strict rules that keep them safe from harm.

It occurred to me that, historically, Jews were the [n-word] of Europe. In many countries, they were the people who were unlike everyone else, who were Christians and society was dominated by the church. So they were segregated into ghettos and generally oppressed. Culminating in the Holocaust. Now, there are so many minorities to hate in Europe and the West that Jews have to get in line. In many places, it's Palestinians who are considered the "other", to be erased.

Anyone interested should check out Sweatshop's recently published Ghassan Hage anthology 'The Racial Politics of Australian Multicuturalism' I'm glad Naomi mentioned Hage, I wasn't aware of his recent essay until now! I know him from his incredible book 'Against Paranoid Nationalism: Searching for Hope in a Shrinking Society' which is included in the above book, along with 'White Nation: Fantasies of White Supremacy in a Multicultural Society'!
