The part about a therapist revealing their actual views on Palestine really struck a note with me, first because it’s so jarring to hear in and of itself, but also how it has a familiar resonance regarding my experiences with the medical profession as a trans woman. In the early days of my transition I used to be gaslit by health providers, including psychologists/psychiatrists, about my trans identity not being real, misgendering and deadnaming me, and them attributing any kind of health issue I had with my transness. So when I more recently felt the need to raise the my feelings about the genocide in Gaza with my therapist, I remembered my early interactions with some therapists about my transition and hesitated, as I realised I had no idea of my therapist’s views on Palestine, irrespective of how progressive I’d come to believe my therapist was. In the end, I self-censored and talked in generalities without referencing any particular side or group.

Great song. Reminds me of Hans Eisler and Bertold Brecht.

I am a child of immigrant parents and have grown up in a religious and cultural mix where competing selves and identities is the norm until eventually (one hopes) you get to your own balance - it's not always easy and I know it's quite common for people like myself but having watched a few of these podcasts I admit I never knew just how much of a mind fuck it was for many Jewish people having to re-assess so many things all at once in the context of their history, relationships, religion and self; it's probably not something that anyone wants but when it comes to an identity crisis - you win all the medals!! In fact I think you've invented a new kind of identity crisis. It's also adds another complexity that I've never thought about when I'm ranting on about the horrors of the genocide and occupation. THANK YOU FOR THAT. I REALLY NEEDED TO ADD ANOTHER LAYER TO ALL THIS. take care of each other and you are all in my prayers - whether you like it or not. I would apologise for the length of the above sentences but I wouldn't mean it.

Working my way through this one - love these two lovely humans. So much mental clarity and wisdom - respect!

Such a great episode. The story of the writing on the desk and the reaction, made me think of Monsters Inc and finding the sock on the monster.

Ilan Pappé has lived and taught in the UK since 2007

I’m amazed how much shit guys like these and Ilan pappé are allowed to talk while existing in Palestine. Great song too, minimal folk Gside core??

In Japanese “mate” is the imperative form of the verb “matsu”, “to wait”. So Daniel Mate (pronounced more or less exactly as Daniel does it) is “Daniel, wait!” In Japanese script it is ダニエル待て!. Works with your surname first too, as they do in Japan: 待てダニエル!(“Wait Daniel!”)
