All About That Base
🕑 Added 2018-10-14 15:49:45 +0000 UTC Today I've released some major base updates, only some of which are public currently, so as patrons, you get early access. First off, there's some updates that apply to all or most bases:- Added supports to OpenLOCK bays. The original supports that Printable Scenery published, I was never happy with, they were as prone to causing a print to fail as they were to help, but after many revisions, I think they supports they have today are quite good. I've used them before on some bases and tiles, but today I'm updating all the bases to have them.
- Added concave curved bases. I still need to get concave curved floors out, which will also enable you to make curved tiles that sit on a square base. Cut stone had support for these type of curved walls, and I think we really need support for them in Dungeon Stone (and moving forward).
- Added a bevel at the bottom of the bases so that they don't "elephant foot" on the first layers. I personally find it irritating that I need to run a hobby knife over the bottom of every base I print just to get rid of the lip that can from on the first few layers. That should no longer be a problem with the new bezel.
- Files organized into zip files. With 707 bases (more on that in a moment), the bases were starting to get completely crazy to download and organize. Now I have them in zip files on dropbox and on thingiverse.
- All base sizes and locking mechanisms got: curved 4x4 notch, and the 6x6 & 8x8 a, b & c bases.
Now for the even larger announcement. This is not yet public, as I still need to print some tiles for photoing and to manage the releases with the respective facebook groups, but I've added support for BOTH Dragonlock (Fat Dragon Games) and Infinitylock (Dungeonworks). Both sets now have normal bases and magnetic bases in the inch tile sizes. Currently, we are only supporting Inch for both of these due both to licensing, and also because the tiles they are compatible with are only in inch, so no reason to add more complexity. Infinitylock gets a base for every single tile shape and size. Dragonlock (due to it's design) gets a base for every tile shape and size that comes in a multiple of 2 (so 2x2, 2x4, 4x2, 4x4). In total, this means we have created or updated a whopping 707 bases to get prepared for this release.
So as a summary, here is what is now supported:
- Magnetic: 25mm, Inch & Wyloch
- OpenLOCK: 25mm, Inch & Wyloch
- Magnetic + OpenLOCK: 25mm, Inch & Wyloch
- OpenLOCK Triplex: 25mm, Inch & Wyloch
- Dragonlock: Inch
- Dragonlock + Magnetic: Inch
- Infinitylock: Inch
- Infinitylock + Magnetic: Inch
All of these bases are available to you now via Dropbox. The traditional sets (magnetic, openlock and the combinations) are also available on Thingiverse. We will be announcing these hopefully this week as I get some of Fat Dragon Games' and Dungeonworks' tiles printed and painted so I can photo OpenForge tiles working with them.

thanks! Is there a wiki to explain what all the different versions are? What is 25mm vs 1 in vs wylock?

Thanks for the openlock inch plain set. I'm constantly having the thin riser for openlock snap off in between slots on the triplex format. These will work great.

Long and short of it is no, it won't affect you if you already have options you are happy with. Giving more options means that people who are happy with other systems can more easily use OpenForge. I'm glad to hear that my organization on dropbox has made this easier, as that was a significant goal. I know that the breadth of options can be overwhelming, but hopefully it's now easy to get to the pieces that are right for your table :-)

So I fully confess that all these various types and compatibilities confuse the heck out of me. So I really like the Dropbox organization, because I can easily find Magnetic OpenLock 1 inch tiles much easier than trying to parse through them on Thingiverse. In fact I did not even know there was a 2x3 dungeon stone floor until I was browsing in the Dropbox. I am still confused if any of these changes/additions will effect me in the future - but I am happy to say that I am the final stages of printing off a base set (plus some) of 1 inch dungeon floors, walls and doors - with the magnets attached to about 75%. Thanks for all the work.
