About the future of MAiH
🕑 Added 2021-02-27 10:53:05 +0000 UTCHi! Love the amount of support I've received from everyone while taking a little break from this. Subscribers have continued to drip in (not even sure how people find my game at this point as I only post it on reddit) and only one guy got mad at me!
The situation
I wanted to talk to you all about the future of this project. My meds are really working great now and I am feeling better than ever. This does mean that I spend way more time doing productive things and spending less time on porn-related stuff, including this game. It also lowered my libido, which was usually what got me into the mood to write stuff for miss-adventures. This is a dilemma.
Over the past weeks, I've been working on a little side-project that I've had for a few months. It's also a celebrity themed game, but totally different. Way more game-y, I suppose. Actual RPG elements, character building, levelling up etc. It's a lot of fun for me as I get to code all kinds of stuff and the sex scenes aren't 90% of the work. I'm making an actual game and I really enjoy it. It's not even in alpha state right now but it'll be amazing if I achieve what I set out to.
If it weren't for this Patreon, I would probably leave MAiH as it is and move on to that project. But I won't, because I have over 200 people actually giving me their hard earned money for MAiH specifically. This is amazing but also kind of locks me in place on the game.
Miss-Adventures is getting too big
This is a real issue I'm facing. The game is approaching levels where it gets too big. This was an issue before when the software I use to code the game actually slowed down so much I could barely continue to write. I managed to solve that, but now I'm running into the next issue: the game is slowing down for players. When I converted all 150+ girls into full objects with lots of characteristics, it slowed the game down significantly. I countered this by lowering the history function to 5 steps (meaning you can go back 5 choices instead of the usual 30 or so) and it's alright, but after long sessions the game still slows down.
This has caused me stress for a while now, as I actually have to change the $10 tier. If I keep adding celebrities with all these stats, the game will soon slow to a crawl. Especially if I also keep adding features that add to the code and make the game keep track of an unmentionable amount of variables, all played in-browser. But Patreon won't let me change a tier that people are subbed to and I got nearly 80 people subbed to the $10 tier.
MAiH started as "I got nothing to do this weekend, I like r/CelebEconomy. Let's give this a shot". Now it's this huge thing where 200 people expect things from me and I actually have to deliver or I feel like a scammer for taking their cash. I have less time, less drive and less room software-wise to continue building it.
The plan
I have a plan and I would love to hear everyone's input on this. I want to finish MAiH. I've said this before and then got a bit of an inspiration spree and added more stuff, but this time I want to be done for real. I wanna make it as bug-free as possible, finish up the relationship features so it's all working flawlessly and add the last missing scenes and be done with it. Then I want to focus on my next project and really take my time, not releasing it until it's main features are all done.
The patreon
What does this mean for you? Well, for the coming month or two I'll still be working on the game and will be leaving this Patreon up. Do realize that the $10 tier celebrities are gonna be an issue with performance. I have an idea though. I'll let $10+ people offer up their celebs and then do a poll only accessible to $10+. I'll then add the top 5 or so to the game, rounding off the total number of celebs in the game to 160 or 165 to keep it playable but not overload it. I hope this is an acceptable solution to all.
After the game reaches 1.0, this Patreon will probably go offline. Or if I can find a way to change the tiers, I'll leave it up for people to support without rewards. I might change it to be for the next project and give you dev updates on that.
I did promise everyone some special rewards besides just cash and I will definitely add those before 1.0. I was thinking an exclusive girl but other ideas are welcome.

Well, I was talking about the next project with the RPG elements :) implementing things like that in miss-adventures would get a little hard at this point, which is also why I want to move on to a next project. Adding things to such a huge project is getting really hard code-wise. I think you'll love the next project as well though, it's gonna be totally different but have way more replayability. Thanks, that is reassuring :) The code on MAiH is honestly a mess beyond repair at this point. It works but it's so sloppy as I learned a lot while making it. This is another reason I am looking forward to starting a new project: start from scratch and apply all that I've learned while making MAiH. Thanks for the offer though, I might take you up on it sometime!

That’s good that you’re adding more RPG elements because once you get to a certain point it gets a bit repetitive I’m not sure about anyone else but I play this game even without porn and I am glad that you’re adding more I’m glad that you’re meds are working and hope you go on to do great things.

I can't speak for the rest of us, but I have always considered Patreon donations to first and foremost be an indication that I enjoyed your previous work, and I want you to be able to continue doing that work in exchange for being kept in the loop. As much as I enjoy MAiH, your health and well being should come first, and I would enjoy seeing a new game just as much. I didn't offer before b/c I tend to get rather busy, but if you don't mind slow responses and want someone to skim over code to help debug or look for ways to make it more efficient, I love tweaking algorithms.

I like the poll idea and adding the top 5. Also like the exclusive girl idea. Personally I think as long as you are able to finish what you have already started in the game, it will feel like a complete game and I will be satisfied with that and willing to support future projects.
