I gotta wonder, is it ever hard for Maple to see Honey prefer her father so much? I bet somewhere in the deep back of her mind she thinks about everything she gave up to give Honey the best possible life, only for Honey to prefer spending time with her dad. I know you mentioned at one point that in the future when Honey has grown as a person she and Maple are somewhat estranged and I just wonder what effect that will have on Maple.

Would there ever be a point in time where Honey will actually confront her dad and actually stand up to him and not back down? Also I know a few weeks ago (I forgot which post specifically) that you were worried about this turning into The Honey Show, but I honestly don’t mind that. It’s really fascinating hearing about this fucked up family going through something so terrible and picking up the pieces and mental insuring from conservative religion (i hope I’m wording that part right) and reconnecting/finding found family

On the car troubles front, I sympathize. One of my tires popped a few weeks ago and I made an appointment to get 4 new tires (unfortunately I have AWD so I have to replace all 😭) and the shop ordered the WRONG tires so I had to wait even longer to get my car back into drivable shape. On another note, I love the size difference between Penny and Cupcake. I imagine Cupcake is hypervigilant when it comes to Penny and worrying about accidentally hurting her meanwhile Penny is begging to be stepped on by her giant gf

Ough. I can see parts of my upbringing with Honey and I don't like it - mostly the "super paternalistic emotionally closed off dad + super emotional anxious controlling mom" part, and how for a long time my dad was my favorite parent. He didn't shout at me or berate me (usually). He'd sneak us out for a treat. He'd listen to my baby ramblings and nod and smile. He was my defense when my mom came after me - and she was constantly on my butt for something. I loved my dad a lot...so it hurt a lot when I realized he didn't really *care* about me. He cared about his daughter, but not about *me* - you could replace me with an entirely different personality and he would probably just be like "wow you're so cheery now, that's great." My mom...well. I felt like she was irrational, so I closed myself off (even more) because that's how you act like a ~mature adult~. Now that I'm old, I understand that she was super traumatized as a kid and that she did her best to raise me (yay, inter-generational trauma). She's more able to actually see me as a person, so our relationship is better...not good, but better. Anyway, I'm excited to see how she deals with her changing perspective on her parents - and how her parents push back.

Oh no, Maple's struggles and stresses take the form of catastrophic anxiety, not depression. Maple doesn't spend her days deep in despair, she's actually pretty chipper! She's got plenty of hobbies and housekeeping and happy pills to keep her functioning and smiling away. Maple self-medicates a LOT and would gnaw off her own arm before she would sit with her own feelings, the agony of introspection is unbearable for her.

Jesus. For as flawed as Maple is, I have to respect her resilience. Because I genuinely think I'd be suicidal in her position, between being stuck with a husband like Merry and the child I gave up literally Everything for not respecting me. That being said I know that suicidal ideation is an Extremely heavy subject and I completely understand not feeling comfortable portraying that in your work

Honey is very, very resistant to seeing her father in a bad light. She's definitely aware of the age gap- Maple is still spry enough that she could probably still beat Honey in a footrace, while Merry gets tuckered out watching the weather channel. Merry was 60 by the time Honey graduated high school. She knows she has an unusually old dad, but to him that only makes Merry more dear to her. He's old and walks with a cane, but he's still so commanding and tough! She doesn't mind slowing down for him when they go on walks together, or fetching his slippers or ironing his shirts. Honey loves her dad. However, while Merry does love Honey as much as he is capable, he's still pretty unavailable and emotionally neglectful, so Honey feels compelled to vy even harder for his attention, which is so much rarer and more precious than her mother's. She has a lot of anxiety over his health and sometimes has nightmares about him dying. She doesn't view the age gap as odd because she grew up in it, and assumed her mother was simply drawn to the incredible leader her father is. It's romantic! ....is what she tells herself. But Honey couldn't help feeling a little uncomfortable when sometimes, growing up, she and Maple would be painting each others nails and watching fluffy girly movies and gossipping, more like sisters than mother & daughter, and then Merry would interrupt to gripe about something or other and instantly suck all the air out of the room like somebody's grumpy grandpa. Sometimes Merry treats Maple more like, well....a condescending FATHER rather than a husband, and it always makes Honey wring her hands. It's awkward and uncomfortable. Honey will sympathize with her mother one day, but for now she has only internalized Merry's paternalistic treatment of Maple, and thus views her mother as dumb, immature, and needy.

Shoes are common! Though most critters go barefoot most of the time, shoes are worn when necessary (eg. walking through mud, on conblestones, through brambles, etc). To wear them is also often an aesthetic choice. Felix wore high-heeled boots, Django wears cowboy boots, and Eleanor loves high heels. Cupcake definitely seems like a socks with sandals kinda gal- comfort and utility!

That makes sense! I hope Don and Gio know each other, even in an acquaintance sort of sense! I just hope to see a bit more of Gio building his empire or just younger Gio in general! And man I thought Madeline was just a tad younger than Gio oops.

Oh no, not Virgil and Madeline anyway. Present day Toffee is in his early to mid 40s, while Virgil and Madeline are both a decade younger. They would've still been in primary school when Toffee was going through his crisis. Gio meanwhile....well, I am toying with the idea of Gio and Don knowing each other, but I can't say Gio strikes me as the sort to hang out at the kinda cheap gay bars Toffee was spending his nights in. Gio's the sort to bring the party to HIM, not go out to parties.

oh, I'm so sorry about your car! I hope the new tires last you a good long while. Many many delightful things about these doodles but possibly my favorite is Penny's teal fur dye! It's always quite fun seeing new colors on her. The juxtaposition between her bare little grabby lemur feet and Cupcake's socks and slides is also making me crack up. And also think about how claws and socks work in this world, for those that have them- I assume Cupcake has to keep hers trimmed pretty regularly in order to not tear her socks? It also makes sense that Penny would go barefoot, prehensile feet and all- how common are shoes for the furry folk in this universe? I'd assume it varies kind of widely based on what their feet actually Look like and what kind of terrain they're used to...

Merry definitely didn't know about Toffee's double life. In his eye, Toffee was doing just fine under Don's tutelage, making decent strides to man up, even going so far as to teach other poor, confused "queer" youth about the evils of homosexuality, and how it's never to late to be saved from it. In reality, Toffee WAS learning how to counsel from Don, trying to pray the gay away with increasing desperation, trying to be a good son....while also having a secret relationship with Don and starting to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Toffee is going to inevitably self-destruct, but while he's on his steady spiral downward Merry misreads all the warning signs. Toffee becomes avoidant with his father and at times quite cold toward him, Merry believes Toffee has simply finally lost his whiny neediness and is now practicing some long-needed adult independence. Toffee spends a LOT of time with Don, even outside of church duties, Merry thinks that's a good thing. Toffee becomes an outright zealot about conversion practice, Merry thinks his son has simply finally discovered some good old-fashioned passion for their faith. When his relationship with Don inevitably blows up and Toffee spins out of control with increasingly risky behaviors that often lapse into indirect methods of self-harm, he will ultimately attempt to hurt himself quite badly, and Merry- like many- will be caught entirely off guard.

I don't know if this was intentional or not but as a fellow autistic girly I absolutely love how Mimi dose the trex arms. I walk around with my arms held in that position all the time (as well as walking on my tip toes) so when I see characters that also have this same trait it fules my soul.

Honey is still his favorite kid, he just thinks she's going through a weird phase. Merry's got a lot of condescending paternalism going on and doesn't think lesbianism is real. To him homosexuality is two men committing vile sex acts against god. "Lesbianism", in his eyes, is simply two women childishly rebelling against society, or fooling around when bored. A lesbian is just a woman who hasn't found the right man to set her straight. And so, Merry thinks Honey is just confused, and that she'll straighten out when she finds a husband. Honey has definitely pushed back against Merry's mindset, even argued with her father outright, but it's like speaking to a brick wall. Furthermore, she's just not confident enough in her identity yet to properly stand up for herself. Merry is stubborn and hard to argue with, and Honey loves her dad too much to want to rock the boat too much and risk losing his favor. It's a topic they've just learned to avoid. Merry is not as pushy about Honey getting married/having kids as you might expect, because she's his innocent baby girl and he kinda wants her to stay frozen in time like that forever. Honey meanwhile is not exactly landing any ladies, so she and her father don't have reason to butt heads most of the time.

I really enjoy this simpler style! Mimi has creeped her way into my heart with her creepy little ways. Also always love to see Merry, I wonder if his love for Honey could end up being something that helps him rethink things, maybe seeing how much it hurts her to try and be like him. Does he know about all that happened to Toffee? I can see him either not knowing and then being kinda horrified and ashamed he pushed him into it OR being like welp what can you expect from being gay. Or both honestly, repressing the guilt until it turns into “well that’s what you get you little homo”

I am currently on vacation about 4 hours away from home and my car made a weird noise pulling into the hotel so I’m just pretending I didn’t hear that and hoping it goes away when I turn it on tomorrow morning because I just can’t right now 🫠. Hooough, i gotta be better at drawing drugs. That's not a tongue piercing, it's a tablet of ecstasy. Toffee used to drink and party pretty heavily and just generally engage in a lot of unsafe behavior. When talking to Honey about his past Toffee would probably laugh and vaguely say it's a miracle he made it out of his twenties, but that's not an exaggeratation- he almost didn't. He's been clean and sober for years though in present-day FB, though he may still have a bit of old leather gear tucked away, just for fun. Topher is the one with body mods, he's got a tattoo on the back of his neck (hidden by his stupid dog-man mullet) and his junk is pierced.

Honestly Mimi is living her best life and I have never more wanted her confidence and tits out attitude to life. I think out of the whole fuzzbutts cast she's got the most worked out- she knows what she wants, and has a good job and a son she adores. I also wasn't prepared for Toffee tongue piercing, good lord????? this church boy has gotten up to some shit that would absolutely knock the wind out of Honey, and while it wasn't good for him, I'm happy for him regardless (does he keep any piercings or have any visible scars?? idk how tongue piercings work in particular, but when I got my lip piercings, I made peace with having visible dimples in my lips forever). Did Toffee get any embarrassing tattoos???? did he keep any of the leather????? Unrelated: In a funny way, it's always a jumpscare to see Cupcake and Panny bc even if their fuzzbutts versions are very different unique characters, I still instinctively go "PANDORA AND CUPCAKE??????
