The fire, the wind, all made the warmth and security and love inside so much better! Please, feel free to use bad weather whenever, Gael - you know, as you were saying how you were going to take care of me this year, I was answering back, “And I’ll be taking care of you, love!” Because that’s what I’d be telling my man. I want to be there for him when his day is crap, when he doesn’t expect his favorite cake for dessert, or a nice long scrub in a hot shower, to relax and get comfortable. It’s a 50/50 deal with the fella who gets stuck with me. Only ... I gotta build up my collection of bad jokes. But I’ve got a pip of a story about Aunt Dee. She was married to my mother’s brother, and the lot of us were Methodists. But my uncle, being Editor of the hometown newspaper, here about the mid-70s, had been invited to the Catholic Bishop saying mass on St, Patrick’s Day. So to make a good impression, Aunty Dee goes all out - day at the salon, new dress, new shoes. And on the day of the Mass my uncle’s calling up the stairs, “IRISH! (Her maiden name was Bryan, so uncle Ken, he called her Irish.) Hurry up, or we’re gonna be late!” Well, down Herself comes, in her new shoes and purse and dress - And a big, blazing Orange hat the size of a Volkswagen! You could spot that thing if she was standing at the cathedral’s front door & you were in the choir! My Uncle had an apoplectic fit right there on the spot, screaming, “You can’t wear an orange hat to a St. Patrick’s Day Mass!” He then proceeded to give her a history of the Troubles, as she found a brown hat and they drove at 80 mph to the Cathedral. When my aunt got nervous-like, she laughed, and the more she laughed the more exasperated my (ginger) uncle got! They were a pair to draw to - or to avoid, depending on the day!
