““Because it results in improved food production,” Ludmila replied. “Which in turn results in population growth.” “Which in turn creates a dependency on our fertiliser exports,” Liane said.” Replace fertilizer with salt, and you have Stormport-Rolengorek relation

Thanks for the chapter! Well, I always liked Liane and her "new technologies and boundless motivation to invent new things", back than her obsession with money seemes like a kind of "funny, comedic side-trait", but at this point she seems to be more and more revolving into the "stereotypically, uncaring, bastard capitalist" archtype! :)

Just saw video thumbnail called "Fertilizer Shortages will cause global famine by Peter Zeihan" on Youtube, and it immediately reminded me of whatever Liane was talking about this chapter. Can't tell how related they are lol Can't tell how unreliable/reliable the video is, didn't watch it either way, but the title of the video caught me off-guard

They need just to use both and balance it and be/stay aware of it, short/medium term Liane way is "good" but need to not become to much "fixed" in this way as it can't be changed well if build to much and so need to not become a full "primary" of how doing thing, and long term well Liane don't work well because long term it cause problem who will rebound anyway to them and their land and also because goal is World Domination, so the "other" and other land will become Their at some point, so you don't drop garbage and problem to thing who will become Your (and have a system who work only like that) So using both of them seem the way to go, and knowing the Liane way need to be tighly supervised and managed (so as it not become too much unmovable and primary (too much) way to do thing), can't not use it because it is extremely usefull short/medium term and give plenty of card vs "others" (plenty of benefice like she pointed) but the Ludmilla way need to be developped in the background/fundation and little by little and at the same time (with goal it will switch more/totally to that as time pass) because liane way will need to dissapear as all land and the "others" will become SK in their world domination goal and so going full Ludmilla way will become necessary

Looking at the issue we have here it seems like a scary upcoming crisis. On earth we seem to be on a course to avoid this catastrophe of exponential growth. The rate of population growth is much lower now. And it seems like we will stop growing completely around 11 billion people. Most things in nature are logistics curves rather than exponential ones. So the issue identified may never come to pass, but failing to prepare for it could lead to enormous amounts of suffering, waste and environmental damage.

really good point, maybe Ludmilla also gets influenced by the bond with Ilyinsh and has through it a tendencie (dragon?) to see these issues more longterm

Yomuashi

I would argue that Ludmilla sees the issue in terms as an immortal while Liane sees it as a "human". Its why humanity is lowkey a pest in this world, they die quickly and drop all their problems on everyone else because "won't be in an issue in my lifetime, so its kinda sounds like a You problem.". I kinda agree with Liane in terms of what they should do, but at same time could be a problem couple thousand years down line or something like that

On the other hand, Ludmila doesn’t have to provide for many people like her friends. It would be interesting to see how she would handle settling 100k humans if she had to

Luciaron

Lianes whole argument seems to be that it’s fine to push problems onto other people. Land clearing, overpopulation, war, all fine as long as it’s between people far away and benefits us materially. Imo Ludmila has the instinct that this won’t work long term but can’t quiet put her feelings into words.

It's been there since the beginning, but it was hard to discern because they were still familiarising themselves with the Sorcerous Kingdom's systems. Ludmila seemed just as keen on industrial progress in the beginning, but her limits are also clearly defined early on with her goals for land utilisation. Liane, on the other hand, has always been portrayed as a technocrat/industrialist.

Yomuashi

Interesting that we have basically an ideology clash so early. Wondering if this arc is mostly dealing with the territory and issues of the Kingdom.
