Hope all is well with the Author!!!

Lost Boys

I’ve checked patreon like 8 times this morning even though I still haven’t got an email lmao

Hussar L

Not the first time. Patreon at fault

Maakolo

Today is World Backup day lol

Noah Swan

It's not quite that simple though. Nobody besides Ainz in the Sorcerer Kingdom has an actual frame of reference for what Liane's ideas will lead to. Ludmila just knows because the magic of the world makes her aware. It's comparable to trying to explain capitalism hundreds of years ago in feudal societies where the very concept of capitalism and all it entails doesn't exist... except you don't have the advantage of arguing you get more money and instead say you get less.

Noah Swan

There was one time the patreon autopost got messed up. Another time where flight delays caused a chapter to be late.

Maakolo

Oh shit is the author dead? This is the first time I remember a chapter being late, so its kinda funny. Gotta give thanks at how consistent they are. I am perpetually suffering from one author who's story I love but has been very inconsistent since the new year. Edit: Or maybe im out of the loop?

Zarik0

Just Mare will save the day on this (with the Druid faction) or atleast they will be a strong different faction who counter balance liane way, if it don't even go into the hear of Ainz at some point (who know the shit where it go at the end if not properly controlled, aka his old "destroyed" world)

Aqat

I think the problem is not as severe in the SK than elsewhere. They all have a pretty clear class understandment and when the ranger or druid inform them that something is destroying the natur they will accept it. Their classes are supposed to know this so when they tell u about it u listen. Then u try to work in the new limits they set or work to off set it somehow.

Yomuashi

It would be hilarious if this ends up happening and Liane goes "why couldn't you just say that".

Joe Bob

I wonder if Florine's "Diplomat" levels make humans percieve her as more attractive, or at least not unattractive.

Zarik0

Definitively possible and plausible

Gopard

I can see Ludmilla working her ass of the entire Arc to find a solution or even really "visualize" the problem for non-rangers in the first place only for it to somehow reach Ainz and he just supports Ludmila, clearly verbalizes all the problems with too much industrialization and even immediately gives some general countermeasures in a single conversation. And then even the Nobles start singing his praises as the "impossible smart ruler"! ;)

Gopard

Thanks for the chapter! I like the fact that I can already see a possible conclusion for this "issue" Ludmila has. She will vent to Shalltear Ainz will get wind of it somehow and then the entire huge Arc of Ludmila trying to verbalize "exhaustion of natural resources and non-sustainable society-growth" to other people will be solved and clearly laid out by Ainz in a single conversation right of the top of his head (because he literally needs only to talk about the situation on earth) and everyone will be like "Oh, what an amazing foresight and intellect to recognize these problems and solutions at a single glance and showing us foolish ones just how easy a solution can be when one with unbound and unlimited intellect works on it!". ;)

Mirror Drop

Perhaps the expedition will turn up some hard evidence to help Ludmila construct a more convincing argument for sustainable development?

Luciaron

Ludmila needs to take some more liberal arts lessons if she has such problems translating her feelings into proper arguments.

yeah the thing is there is one fundamental flaw in your thinking too which is based on how society is today they simply are not yet aware of how a mordern society should function think back to the containers "it's obvious in hindsight yet noone thought of it till now or if they did, they didn't have the means to make it happen" is a theme throughout the entire story ludmilla is explicitly ignorant of matters regarding commerce, and with how ranger/druid classes change the way you thing why would it be any different for merchants? they're not telling her because it's simply not crossed their minds as it would be an unthinkable state of afairs for a merchants sensibilities. then there is also the fact that limiting it to one per household would utterly disregard the realities of what those items are for, sure one lighting for a city dweller might be fine but a farmer with a barn and fiels to tend to would get no additional work done. similarly the hoops warm a specific volume of air so if it's a larger home or for example to warm animals during the winter you would need more of them. imo the best way to resolve it would be to have the distribution managed by merchants she hires that can go from home to home to check how many are needed based on her guidelines. yes this would take a lot longer and be a lot of work but it also incorporates the merchants, but we'll have to wait and see.

Zarik0

She just need to point long term what it create if you keep "pushing" and do things only like that with no "control"/leash on it, a blind uncontrolled train running head on forward (who will hit for sure walls and rebound at some point, its just not sustenable simply and can be used long long term (it end at some point) and with transforming everything around only with that way have "unknow" repercussion and destruction Its a bit like our situation of our era when we do thing seeing only growth and etc in economic and more energy and blabla, which is great for progress and etc but we know its not sustenable and will come to a end, need to use these progress/learning and grow to start build sustenable long term thing in the background and prepare to switch to the other way ("saving" the gain done in this era and not regressing at some point in the future when it end and fuck up everything) Also Ainz know, his shitty old IRL world is mostly "because" of that) also "immortal" ruler/leader change a lot of things here I don't say to not use Liane way, this is necessary, the benefice are just too much, but it need to be "limited" to area and controlled/supervised that it don't go out of control and become "all" of what is in the country/system/culture and so only rush forward (blindly with one sided system who is not sustenable and will end and hit wall and get rebound/destruction), the ludmilla way and very sustenable and preservation way need to be build slowly in the background and take more and more place as the Liane way is less and less needed to fuck everyone around, "growing"/learning fast and expand/shallow around It can only end at some point, the "long term" things and "end game" need to be preps and cultivated in the background at the same time (having the two system at the same time) or you end with a big wall you headbut and destruction and system collapse at some point/at the end Its like (for picture) the center (core) of your territory need to be cultivated with long term and sustenable way (so more ludmilla system) and the extremity (or part/aspect of country in (more) contact with the exterior things is needed more with the liane way (who give fast growth, progress, learning and benefice and use what you have to shallow/face the "outside" in the clash/competition with them

". All that the priestless villagers could do was gather at their shines* to pray that the injuries they collected wouldn’t be crippling,"- I think you meant "shrines"?

Lost Boys

I disagree with Maakalo on a core base level. We are not talking about government regulation and over reach controlling every single product and sale. We are talking about highly specialized products in one specific industry coming out of a single region. All other magic items can be free market with no control. Only the ones who were subsidized, researched, and produced in one Baron’s territory will be subject to these regulations. You talk about a free society in a way that makes me laugh. Go buy a box of hot pockets or something similar. Every single one might say ‘not for resale’ although obviously people do. We’re still free lol

Yomuashi

I think the reason though people are doing it this chapter is honestly because realistically only Liane would do it if people were scared and it would be grating if whole Arc it was Liane going haha money goes brrrr I’m smart for wanting to hurt the empire and nation even though I’m going be offered immortality. So adding the common people alleviates it since everyone is doing it thus its an issue Ludmila actually has to solve instead of just friend trying prove a point, also in couple generation or two with Ludmilla being immortal they will forget to fear her and same thing in this chapter would happen so realistically its not too bad if you think about it if she solves it now for less headache in the future

Maakolo

Because laws like that are antithetical to a free society. SK doesnt want a command economy where everything is rationed. It would be impossible to manage, even with the bureaucratic potential of SK. One law like that may be possible to implement and enforce but it would be disproportionately difficult to enforce. A few more laws and it would become impossible. You want people to live with a clear mind without constant stress? One thing you have to avoid is over regulation. Especially when those enforcing laws are inhuman beings that enforce laws exactly, which never happens in human societies. Humans can only handle a certain degree of regulation before they have to ignore laws. Legislators arent meant to be so stupid that they try to force something by law at the first sign of something undesirable.

Yomuashi

For noah swan, i think his point is that its wack to do it to a person of power. Ignoring fact she’s one of the adventurer instructor. If we just made an analogy, they’re the students that bought all proffessor’s books that were cheap to help the class and marked it up 10x. They’re the medical company that bought all the medicine or I guess actual real life example epi pens and marked it up 10x because screw the poor right haha money :p. She’s got right idea, but in the wrong time and with people with wrong mindset

Lost Boys

Right? This is the same Ludmilla that the other Nobles can barely maintain eye contact with and talk to because she’s a scary ‘Frontier Noble’ but they are all going to scam her and take all her product for profit

Yomuashi

I really like the last paragraph of this chapter, think it sets the tone for what I believe this arc is going to focus on or at least for next couple chapters. I think ludmilla issue here is that she’s too progressive too early. Her idea are too nonhuman and thus everybody is going abuse them, even if her idea are beneficial in the long run to the people and most importantly the world.

Lost Boys

Ludmilla would literally just have to explain her thinking to Shalltear. “My Lady, His Majesty wanted prosperity and a paradise for all. This is how I’m trying to help achieve that. If merchants buy all my magic items to resale then I can’t bring them to all His Majesty’s people.” One fucking paragraph. That’s not realistic or believable to you? After the NPC’s have lifted Heaven and Hell and destroyed literal countries? That would happily torture people to death for merely taking Lord Ainz’ name in vane (if he would allow them).

Yomuashi

This wasnt my issue with Liane argument as I always felt her was that she represented the destructive human “ways”. But I agree, this kinda feels like a “mess around and find out” but everyone is messing around and not caring.

Noah Swan

As far as I'm aware Ludmila is the sole owner all the products her citizens produce. She can dictate any condition she wants on her products being sold. However her power ends at the selling... unless it's her citizens. Ludmila can't punish someone in Erantel for sneakily buying an extra thing when they should have only been able to buy one beyond banning them from the store. Not unless Ludmila gets permission.

Diego Jimenez

It is a blindingly obvious solution and I'm unsure why nobody brings it up. I'm guessing it's either 'plot' or that the other's don't want Ludmilla to implement a solution since it removes a cheap avenue for profit.

Hussar L

“If we find you reselling any magic items, you will be subject to punishment by the Sorcerer Kingdom.” Ludmilla doesn’t have SK’s authority, only her own barony’s. One can’t blame her for not using authority she doesn’t have. I guess Ludmilla can petition Albedo for such measures, which we know she would refuse. Ainz’s suggestion box then? We know he doesn’t like governing and Ludmilla wouldn’t bother him needlessly.

Lost Boys

I realized what’s been bothering me about Liane’s argument and every one talking to Ludmilla like she’s wrong. The last we’ve really seen of any SK citizens, they were fucking terrified. They are finally starting to leave their house and go to work but their evil dark overlord hangs over their head. Society has started moving from the grinded halt but it’s still a train that hasn’t picked up speed yet. Ludmilla’s people are the exception with the rest of Shalltear’s Vassals following close. Why can’t they just put signs up and have the clerk say one type of magic item per household. No resale. You want to send one to your mom’s house? That’s fine but she and you can only have one each. If we find you reselling any magic items, you will be subject to punishment by the Sorcerer Kingdom. We’re supposed to believe no one fears and respects Ludmilla, her merchants, or the SK? That they would just blatantly hoard and resell all the magic items and Ludmilla would be helpless to stop it?
