I feel like the trick you do where you fake out your dog by pretending to throw the ball would work on this particular Paladin

Interesting comment, thump up :°) ''This will spark the "conflict" which is the "competition for resources" taken to extremes, as humans are herd animals we tend to gravitate to "strength in numbers" thus competing usually not as "individuals" but as "cultural/social Groups"! These groups can be anything dependent on the cultural, social and political situation in the society/state in question, a few examples would be: Man VS Women; Poor VS Rich; Workers VS The Establishment; Right VS Left; Christians VS Muslims; Immigrants VS Natives '' Will just add a little details, that in here the type of group who firstly are forming is more Family at first, Village, Guild Job (like Blacksmith guild/etc) Roble is also brewing/nurturing a mindset in this extreme competition with few reward decided by criteria given by the higher up, a mindset that yes its good if you can be better but if you also sabotage and push others down too it greatly give you more chance to 'win' and be 'competitive'

Thanks for the chapter! I really think if the SK stopped sending food, the citizens of Roble would seen be calling for a revolution (France 1789 is a good example), the temples and holy order also wouldn't stand for "competition losers" (anyone who didn't win) just starving so they or some of them at least would probably join such a cause and we already saw several nobles just eager and ready to work against the system, as is... Well we'll have to see at what point the populace gets fed up with everything OR the "good faction" gathers enough supports and strength to attempt either a coup or rising up with the people together!

Okay, I've just written a very long comment, you're welcome to read it but honestly I don't expect anyone to really. I'm just going by the assumption you "also didn't understand exactly why those policies were so bad for Roble" and I tried to explain that a little bit. Here's a quick summary: Roble's new system if "Turbo-capitalism" taken as far as in any way possible without saying directly "we don't care about all you poor people". In essence it encourages ANY kind of behavior getting you "ahead in the contest" and the most "efficient" ones are bribery, criminal activity (stealing, spying, dirty work like intimidation, etc...) and sabotage. One quality this "new policy" all but FORCES "Roble's citizens" to adapt is "complete abolishment of empathy for fellow citizens" (if you feel pity for your rival, you simply won't win)! Now the "actual" comment and explanation: Its pretty much the way EVERY "developing country" in the world works (that also now supports "Capitalism" as the cure all) only here its taken to the absolute extremes, what really ironic about this situation is that unlike in our world where this type of "policies" would lead to a revolution pretty quickly (Case in point May 5 1789 start of the french revolution, or July 16 same year the "Storm on the Bastille" is the better known event), in this "system-world" a system of extreme competition has much more probabillity to make the entire country rich (even if the general population is guaranteed to suffer) because "Singular individuals excelling in something" are able to handily outperform the vast majority of "unsuccessfulls" once they archieve a high enough level! HOWEVER why the system is bad is this: I always talk about this referencing Karl Marxs works more notably "Conflict Theory" in there, he postulates that in ANY society there exist "Finite resources" and therefore "humans/members of this society" will inevitably compete for them. This will spark the "conflict" which is the "competition for resources" taken to extremes, as humans are herd animals we tend to gravitate to "strength in numbers" thus competing usually not as "individuals" but as "cultural/social Groups"! These groups can be anything dependent on the cultural, social and political situation in the society/state in question, a few examples would be: Man VS Women; Poor VS Rich; Workers VS The Establishment; Right VS Left; Christians VS Muslims; Immigrants VS Natives (now all of these conflicts either ARE taking place in countries today or are at least SAID to be taking place be it by populists, Mass Media or Conspiracy Theorists). Now the question would be if ANY society has this, then it can't really "that bad" right? And thats where "Capitalism" or a "System hoping to use extreme competition of its own populace for economical growth across the country". Capitalism is all about "the Market" handling things, because if people really "need" something than the market would provide as its also "economical" to that. The problem with "extreme competition" and "the market" is that "buisness" isn't fair, there is corruption, crime, lies, cheating, monopols and who knows what making any "balance" a system of capitalism "supposedly has" utterly unrealistic. The very moment one company raises prices too high for a fake reason and no other company can "compensate" for the customers who'd now go looking for cheaper products elswhere (because its just a fact todays companies are so big, they can't just be "replaced") this company will STILL make a profit, the other companies would see and now use the reason "if we don't also do it we can't compete" so prises raise and then a bit later the circle starts again. Its similar with "labour costs" there are easily enough people to do all the work that actually NEEDs to be done otherwise there wouldn't be millions unemployed in countries, therefore a "surplus of available workforce" exists, thus giving the hiring companies the abillity to lower pay as SOMEONE will take the job, unlike the workers the company doesn't starve after 2 weeks of no pay (extreme example ofc). In the end the main reason is this: In a system of extreme competion people WILL go to EXTREMES in order to compete (we read about burned fields and ruined products, THIS IS INSANE if you think about cititizens STARVING without the SK imports!!!) and in a "competition" its only natural while "winners" exist MANY MORE "LOSERS" are needed to create the "winner". The point is not "its fair because really ANYONE CAN "WIN BIG"(ignoring corruption benefitting people with connection over skill btw)" but that "in a competition THERE MUST BE LOSERS MANY LOSERS!" therefore Roble is with these "policies" already decreeing the majority of their population lost and losers who will starve (not now bc of SK), suffer and slave away for the few "winners" to get richer! Now to the point why no one openly objects yet: its simple while majority will get fucked by these policies, its not yet CLEAR who the few "winners" will be! So for now everyone is scrambling to "win", be that through crime, sabotaging competitors, bribing officials, use "questionable connections"(we saw Paul and his "real license" in the last chapter) or simply abandon all care for their "fellow citizens". Thats also ONLY so bc SK is sending them food, really if they stopped sending that they'd a france like beheading attempt quite quickly and the only question is how many high-levels would join the cause to give the "mob" a chance!

Bruh, I'm feeling like a remedios myself with how that entire conversation played out.
