Very interesting comment :) In the similar/interesting example of real fuck up and disaster you can also add China with their 'program' they pushed to their people to achieve 'industrialization' by making everyone make Iron/Steel at home who created in the end the Worst Famine in all of Humanity History in their Country and killed what? 30 millions of their people in China? (more than the second world war total death....)

Gotta keep reminding myself that the Holy Kingdom is being engineered to fall into crisis so the elites who are actively exploiting the situation for power & personal gain can be purged. Still my mind keeps getting drawn to real life events that equate to the mess the Holy Kingdom finds it’s self in. The state commandeering resources for the use of grand revival projects after a crisis isn’t novel or necessary a terrible idea. However the recqrecesioin of labor and resources to the detriment of the living standards of the population leading to poverty, economic breakdown & famine line up with some of the worst excesses of state management in recent history. The medieval nature of the environment of the world does leave the the conditions a step removed from direct comparisons to the collapse of modern states. That being said I see shades of the USSR in the late 20’s with its dual system of socialist state run industrial cities while heavy regulated capitalism was allowed in the countryside under the New Economic Plan. The system set up under Lenin to feed the population after the ravages of WW1 & civil war war brought in funds to the central the government staving off economic collapse & the starvation of war communism. While allowing the more entrepreneurial of the peasants who were the majority of pre-industrialized USSR and a threat to stability if they didn’t get what they wanted bread, land & peace as well some reached a modest level of prosperity. The control of food when collectivization was introduced under Stalin was used export for hard currency to purchase the industrial goods needed to achieve industrialization of the cities. In the countryside peasants were stripped of their small holdings and brought together in collectives that were meant to achieve scale of production like the US did with its mechanized agriculture but using corrosive methods. The spiral of starvation (man made or otherwise) in the countryside lead to those who could seeking jobs in the industry that was being constructed by the gulag labor camps. Just to note I’m musing on the topic of government systems and don’t want to get into earthly politics. The other interesting facet of the swift decline of the Holy Kingdom is its well adapted seemingly (relatively) well developed/educated & friendly population can only be mirrored by the collapse of Venezuela with its standard of living formerly the among highest in South America. Where well a relatively educated population and trained workforce found itself starving after the collapse of government services due to mismanagement, corruption & collapse in oil prices which its economy was completely dependent on. Again I’m not trying to delve into politics I’m not someone who thinks anything left of libertarian is terrible governance, Scandinavian countries are rightly held up as the best run societies in the world imo. That being I’m generally opposed to blindly running a country based ideology as each country and people are unique depending on education, workforce training, geography, distribution of resources, culture, religion & prior forms of governance. A merchant country with minimal regulations and high inequality & services for the poor can benefit from investing its windfalls into social programs for those disadvantaged to build up a better educated & healthier population that can be a stronger workforce which benefits the country as a whole. While a highly centralized command economy can benefit from loosening restrictions on the population to allow entrepreneurial individuals to do what their good at and create enterprises that compete with stagnant state run institutions. Those redundant institutions can be eliminated or shrunk down to a smaller efficient core mission as long as the replacements doesn’t unfairly exploit the populations life necessities for unduly large profit. A balanced country can use various methods at its disposal depending on its situation to foster innovation from varying sections of its population and economy and let them compete in the marketplace of idea to continue develop healthy. I’m enjoying the situation Liam & Saye find themselves in following the trail of mismanagement, corruption & gaming the system as well as how it effects different characters & communities. It’s quite different from the rapidly growing Sorcerers Kingdom & the war torn but resilient unique Draconic Kingdom.

It's really hilarious trying to work out whether a particular piece of societal sabotage is something they came up with on their own or literal devilry. This equity bit reeks of foreign intervention. It's truly amazing though how totally fucked they are top to bottom. The memetic rotten house that collapses with one kick.

Mortals suffering, they don't care. Spit on a Supreme Beings kindness by profiteering off his gifts? Prepare to spend the next century wishing to die.

Thanks for the chapter! Yeah, that food aid is one of few things that's off-limits even with the corrupt government! But I guess these "entrepreneurs with fresh and great ideas", will have to learn that the hard way it seems!

Well there we go. Now time for some killing and conquering. 😂
