That said, Ada playing Tommy's part was a thing of beauty.
Tommy discovered that the sapphire is actually cursed and comes up a plan to break the curse and save Ruby. However, Ruby dies anyway and Tommy wasn't there when it happened.
I cannot begin to imagine how he's going to go forward. With only 3 episodes to go it feels like literally anything can happen.

Oh, shit. I can picture it now that you mentioned it, but I didn't it together. I loved the scenes between him and Esme, though. They felt so raw, and Tommy seemed so exposed. Yeah, I'm concerned about the appearance of the Peaky Blinders after Arthur's moment with Stagg. But I do think a healthier Arthur will be better for them in the long run. But in the short term, the optics don't look good. That's true, too. As much as people respect Arthur because he's Arthur, he's no Tommy, and everybody knows it. Hell, they knew it in, like, the pilot.

Oh this episode is heart breaking. Tommy is so used to paying off everything bad with money that is who he is in his mind. But you can't do a deal with death!!!!! Gold salts was a real treatment in 1934 but with a near zero success rate. Can you remember when John died Esme shouted "No rest for you, EVER!!!!!" so Tommy thought it was her who had laid the curse but the link back to the Sapphire was a wow moment for me. Told you this was a dark season!!! Yeah i felt the same, without Tommy holding centre stage on the screen it seemed strange although like you i loved how Ada stepped up she always does for Tommy they seem to have a special connection. Haydyn Stagg Comrade to comrade was giving Arthur the talk he really needed and perhaps no one else could, but it didn't look good for the Peaky reputation although everyone knows that Tommy would be still looming over them. Hold onto your hats for the rest of the season it's a journey an emotional rollercoaster.
