That seems like a much harder problem to deal with. I mean, if we can just fake small pox and destroy the shipment, sure, but then we'll just have another problem to deal with. Sigh.
I cannot be the only one who was thrilled with everyone mocking Randall, right? It was so nice to see him embarrassed for once. Also, I just looked up Versailles on a map and it does not look like it would be super easy to pop over to another country to have this duel. It looks like a 2 day walk to get to Belgium. And that's assuming you walk nonstop for two days AND that dueling is legal there. (Which I think it was at this point in history, but that is based on a super quick google search that I do not feel confident about the accuracy of. Lol.)
Anyway, I'm also torn about whether or not Claire should have convinced Alex to leave Mary. I know why she did it, but who's to say that she didn't mess things up further and they were already going according to history? I mean Randall is in France right now. And so is Mary. How does she know they wouldn't have gotten together on their own somehow? Either way, trying to change the future is a fickle business.
How are Claire and Jamie going to handle the next year together? Jamie is willing to hold off on the duel for a year, but he's so mad at Claire right now. Plus, now Claire has to put all her effort into trying to get Mary and Randall together? That seems like such a shitty task.

In Jamie and Claire's last fight I was 100% with Claire, despite understanding where Jamie was coming from. I'm 100% with Jamie here. Well, as far as Frank. I understand that Claire has guilt over Frank because of her actions and appealing to Jamie's sense of honor was the only way she felt she could get his promise, but I 100% do not care what happens to Frank, how he's feeling or how innocent he is in all of this. Jamie's feelings and healing is more important, despite what that means for future Frank. I do think Claire is right to be concerned about the consequences of a duel for Jamie and how that could affect them now. I looked up the Apostle spoons for you to answer your question. According to Wiki, Apostle spoons were a Scottish custom, given to a newborn child as a christening gift, be it as one, in pairs, or as a whole set of 12 spoons– the twelve Apostles. They are inspired by the statues of Jesus Christ and his twelve apostles on the West Front of Wells Cathedral. Silver is a precious metal, so when you give an infant a silver gift you offer a piece of the future health and wealth you desire for the child. Primarily, just one spoon would be given, the spoon representing a babies "apostle." They were not hung on a wall. The spoon was actually used and only by that person and it would be kept for life. Interesting. Obviously this was just Jamie's take on that tradition and what it represented. Like Jamie did with gifting Claire his mother's Scotch pearls on their wedding night, he was giving Claire a piece of himself and his family, by giving her the spoons for the baby. Claire recognized the importance of the gesture. His family is the most important thing to him. Claire is the most important thing to him. This was just another way for Jamie to express that. And for us to see how great Jamie is. 🥰
