As an American, here's a fun fact about crumpets that I learned the first time I tried crumpets: your weak-ass baby little itty-bitty American toaster is not fucking prepared for the amount of toasting required to toast a crumpet. Here's how it goes. You take a crumpet out of the package. It's got some heft to it, so you pick a setting that would render normal sliced bread charred and borderline inedible, say a 5 or a 6 out of the unexplained maximum of 7. When it pops up, the crumpet looks exactly the same as it did before. Not only is there no color on it, it's not even fucking CRISPY. It's just hot. Okay, hm. You give it another go at 5 or 6. Three minutes later, it's lightly browned over about 1/4 to 1/3 of the surface. What the fuck? Thing's not even halfway done toasting. You put it down for another 5 (or 6). When it comes up this time, it's fucking burnt, you idiot. Should have given it just a 2 or 3 on the third go-around.

it is weird that there is such vitriol about the hash brown shapes. I buy them frozen all the time, and they are both labeled Hash Browns, but they come either diced or shredded. The Kroger brand ones have the shredded marked as Country style and the cubed ones as Southern style.

Everyone has a bad pick on their lists for me... Other than Geoff's which I really have no frame of reference for. Cold pizza is mid, Eggs Benedict I'll admit I haven't had since I maybe had a taste as a kid and hated it, crispy bacon is awful (come at my floppy bacon all you want), Denver omelet and lox I'm not a fan, and Eric putting an English muffin on the list is awful too. Put that same sandwich on a bagel or McGriddle, and I'm in. It's going to be a tough call for me between Andrew and Eric... Two otherwise excellent lists. My take aways are a) I need to give an eggs Benedict a try, and b) I need khachapuri like immediately. Also I don't know if I've eaten Spanish or Mexican chorizo - but I do love me some chorizo; guess I have a new chorizo to try!
