We have a place here called Boogie’s Burgers and my favourite of their burgers has a butterflied fried hot dog on the burger. Is it still just a burger? (They also have a burger with a hot dog and a mini corn dog on it but it’s massive and holy shit no.)

The hot dog takes are wild (sans Nick). The ENTIRE discussion on hot dogs is based on "how many hot dogs does the average American eat a year?" This number is derived from data fielded from hot dog sales. This does not account number of buns or type of bun (a corn dog is absolutely a hot dog for this conversation.) The number of bun or lack of bun does not matter. If it involves eating a "link" of emulsified meat product (1/4 lb, 1/8 lb, whatever) it's a hot dog to the powers that devise the data, and is therefore a hot dog as defined in this discussion. There is one limitation in my mind once you go smaller than the bog standard 1/8 lb- I have no idea what to do with mini corn dogs. This is the only point of contention I'm willing to concede here.

Double Dogs are definitely a thing in Chicago. Famous local spot Gene and Judes has it as one of 4 menu items https://www.geneandjudes.com/menu/. I see them everywhere here though.

Corndogs aren't hotdogs one is battered and the other is a bread bun and the sausausages don't make it a hotdogs as they have different name like Vienna or frankfurter sausage

Don’t have twitter so couldn’t vote, but if a corn dog is a hotdog then by that logic a hotdog is a sandwich, which is just a no from me. When I moved from the apartment I lived in for about 25 years, I went through and got rid of a ton of stuff, that did have value from me but I knew I didn’t didn’t really need anymore. What they really should be doing is recording every item of food they consume in a year. If they only count hot dogs, then the numbers are potentially skewed by the end. The challenge is to the statistics, to see if the average is really 70. There may be another draft idea for finding the most average food in your diet.
