I love how Kevin Smith/Mallrats was brought up as a potential issue for the name of that bit, only for the VERY NEXT suggestion to be a patreon show called Sunday Drive. Not sure what the crossover in fans of the show is here but Sunday Drive is a patreon offshoot show of the Tell Em Steve Dave podcast, kind if similar to what Geoff is describing. Its made by one of Kevin Smith's (once) closest friends Walt Flanagan where he and his pal (Sunday) Jeff drive around and go to different attractions and stuff. The overlap here, while clearly completely accidental/unknowing is so uncanny. Not to mention Geoff may have even known Walt back in the day tangentially as I understand he used to work for View Askew. Just overlaps and overlaps and overlaps. Guess i have a 'type' when it comes to podcasts

I would be interested in seeing if other people would have that thought, cuz the idea of "oh someone's pet" wouldn't even be in my top 100 possible thoughts. But mostly like we saw in the podcast they instantly started listing other public facing/prank type things which is actually how that goes down if they do even just one like it. Learn from the horrible mistake that was the RT prank show (unless this really is like a regulation enjoyment amongst everyone else then i will accept being very wrong haha)

Dealing with physical pain and my mental health has really been struggling and this podcast and the regulation gameplays and supplementals have been helping me laugh and forget about stuff if only for an hour or two. Most carpet is flame retardant enough that it probably wouldn't catch fire. I have held a lighter to carpet before and it just singes and melts. An ashtray ember or incense would be a very poor fire starters unless you had a major accelerant.

Incense may not burn hot, but it burns long. If a lit stick falls onto a carpet or rug and is left for a while it could absolutely start to catch fibers that could then start to propagate. It won't go up in a flash, but I'm sure by an hour or so it would get dangerous. And if it's near an air vent where oxygen is moving. House fires have been started by a knocked-over ashtray that still had some small embers.

Eh, it's just a rat. I honestly would first assume someone's pet got out. In most suburban areas. We see rats more often on tiktok than real life. Hell I've met multiple people with rats as pets. It's weird people. But. They're the ones who's also maybe lose their rat at a mall?

This is like how we can't bring liquid on planes just because someone at the TSA realized someone COULD combine two clear liquids to make some sort of wild a** bomb. But has it happened? No. Has incense falling into a carpet caused a fire? Also no. Soooo. There's your debate. It CAN. but, 99.9999% of the time. It doesnt. So unless you've soaked your new bouncy carpet in kerosene and threw a freshly lit incense into it. I doubt.

Especially, like Eric said, carpet isn't really flammable at all. It's synthetic and melts when put to heat. I've accidentally melted some carpet a few times..

in uni i remember reading about a criminal case where a dude got put away for arson and he was able to get a retrial because the allegations said he lit the gasoline with his cigarette, but subsequent attempts to recreate the ignition failed (doi:10.1016/j.scijus.2010.10.002). If a cigarette cant ignite gas, Idk that incense will ignite carpet

Eric is 100% right, I once dropped a hot coal from a hookah on my carpet which is way hotter than incense and all it did was burn a hole in the carpet, no fire

Sunday Driving: would love to see it upgraded. Love Gavin’s idea of “machinimating it as a big 1-er”, but what about adding facecams? Seeing something IRL re-enacted and machinimated live, IN GTA, with visual fidelity being the stakes is comedic genius! But it might equally be both watching it get re-created on the screen as much as watching it “in the room”, as it were, with face cams that can really come together to become more than the sum of their parts. Not just one video, but two, of trying to do a machinima re-enactment: 1. Audio: GTA and IRL-Sunday Drive recording; Visual: Facecams over GTA, attempting to re-enact IRL drive; 2. Same Viz as (1), but swap the IRL-audio out for the re-enactment/facecams-audio, reacting in the moment to doing the machinima re-record. Obviously layering audio of yourselves over yourselves is a bad idea. So keep the tracks separate and release the Video twice! But I think the key to this is facecams, even if it’s not everybody; seeing IRL the in the moment reactions to the attempted re-enacting (in GTA, Eric’s favorite game!) of the IRL-drive is.. just a perfect full circle.
