Episode 133: Minding the Darkness, Minding the Light w/Peter Dale Scott (Part 14)
🕑 Added 2023-06-25 16:21:47 +0000 UTCProfessor Peter Dale Scott discusses his seminal work on Indonesia 1965. He began researching the subject in the 1970’s, with his research culminating in a landmark 1985 academic article, “The United States And The Overthrow Of Sukarno, 1965-1967” as well as a public event in which Peter and dissident ex-CIA officer Ralph McGehee debated the subject with retired CIA director William Colby.
This is the 14th installment of the series with prolific poet, historian, and political theorist who gave us parapolitics as well as the deep politics approach.
Special thanks to Casey Moore for the episode art and Dana Chavarria for the sound engineering!

But the only thing to defeat such an organization is a more powerful organization--i.e., a more powerful state. It's a conundrum.

Listening to & reading PDS is turning me back into an anarchist. Unless somehow states can be constitutionally constrained from lawlessness both externally & internally, I just don’t see how they can ultimately be anything other than massively exploitive, destructive institutions.

Ask something about this for the July Zoom and I'll elaborate. I mean that it is a limited hangout of a sort, like McCoy's book...but it's more an academic version...including much good information but not investigating some of the deeper aspects...like ignoring the old money involved in SE Asian heroin trafficking or ignoring the CIA role in G30S.

Accusing Vincent Bevin's book Jakarta Method as a "limited hangout" is non-productive for discourse. Just adds to the already dull thing so often found in parapolitical circles of people accusing everyone else of being a "limited hangout" or "shill" and all that nonsense. We need to move beyond these silly things.
