But if they haven't been, maybe it's because they can't be... Perhaps labor leadership cannot but be co-opted by the enormous wealth generated by the system, wealth that they receive a disproportionate share of relative to rank-and-file members.

Organized labor could be the effective check on private capital as long as they have help from the state in pro industrial policies and not pro speculation.
