In this weekly, I’m going to go over my thoughts for what may come in the next Shattered update.
So What’s Coming Next?
As I’ve talked about for a little while now, my plan has been for the blacksmith’s quest to be the next major piece of new content. I’ve also mentioned that concepting for that quest has taken more time than expected, which is why it didn’t end up coming in v1.4.
As far as actual implementation goes, I haven’t really gotten much further than the internal code changes in v1.3.0 and some visual concepting that you guys have already seen above.
We’re now in the last quarter of 2022 though. While I could try pushing on for the blacksmith’s quest in the next update, I suspect people would much rather see a new hero release next. I also heavily implied a new hero would come this year back in the Shattered Pixel Dungeon in 2022 blog post.
So, with that in mind I have decided that the next update will be v2.0.0 instead of v1.5.0 and will include a new hero instead of a rework to the blacksmith’s quest! This doesn’t mean that the quest rework is never going to happen though, I’m just readjusting my priorities and will likely get to it in 2023 instead.
That new hero is going to be the duelist!
As I’ve mentioned before, the duelist is going to have a bunch of new interaction opportunities with the game’s weapons. Expect to hear a lot more about her in the next couple of months!

Yes, I do want to eventually have some hero-centric story text, but want to wait until I add the two new heroes first.

Super excited for this!!! With the progress made on lore with 1.4.0, is it possible we’ll see more canonical backstory on the duelist, the eventual cleric, and the current heroes soon as well??

Did you notice the released 1.4.0 still says beta in `add_v1_4_Changes`?
