I have had a very large set of responses but the most common being a lot of encouragement. From what I can tell the editing was very appreciated as well as the intro covering so much of what we have been finding issues with in the podcast for Video Essays in general.
Production wise, I think it's a hit but of course there were comments about structure, since many wanted the intro separated, and I think that is reasonable for all of those who don't care for Star Wars but want to hear the argument against Video Essays. As a result of the video, I have had a bunch of support from several creators as well as countless more complaints about length etc. Like I seriously anger a lot of people on Twitter with the whole "Objective" take on media as well as the sheer length of the videos......hehe.
Either way, it's finished and you guys have now seen it (I hope) and so you now know what you can expect from the rest of the series. Of course there will be surprises still but seeing the video should highlight why they are taking so long to get done. The visual editing can be nightmarish to get right, but I think it's worth it.
So, with all that said, Part 1 is released and it's been awesome seeing everyone actually watch something new from my channel after so long.
Next up is the Audio Commentary; I got some easy feedback to understand from that one, the music was annoying for several people as they were trying to sync with the film and it clashed. I didn't foresee that being an issue even when I tested it myself but I will take it into consideration as well as working to erase the silences by having conversation prepped for silences ahead of time or something like that.
The friend I am planning to run these with is called Alex and we have known each other for many years. We always kind of liked the idea and this first one is a good start, I think. In future now, we will have a few things planned to make the commentary smoother as well as being sure to cover movies we love and hate.
We can probably do some form of a poll (probably on here and twitter) to see what people are interested in us covering out of a couple of options. But yeah, overall it seems successful with a few hiccups that can be ironed out. So, more are on the way but they won't be made/released unless there's a specific holiday to match it or it follows a larger series release.
Every Frame A Pause has had a very strong general response, we get loads of fan art/videos and requests while having some very fun guests. We hit episode 20 before the year closed out and now i'm looking into getting audio only versions of the podcast and more art changes.
We have memberships on YouTube now too, the way it works is that you "Join" the channel for £5 a month and you get a badge and you can use emotes for the live streams, including EFAP. If people we're looking to an alternative to Patreon, this could suffice until I can set something else up.

But hey, maybe an intro and maybe a bit of expansion of some form in future for the podcast, who knows. I never quite expected it to be so well received but it acts as a staple now, a way to explore video essays as well as criticism of each of our channels.
Overall its been an interesting two weeks, I have had loads of conversations with fans and friends about how to move forward with different projects and the like.
As for 2019, I do indeed have plans. I want to finish the TFA critique, create a critique for Hill house (TV Show), create a critique for God of War 2018 and then move into Episode 9 at the end of the year.
During that, I want a rage/praise video for whatever we get throughout the year, for example, we have Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel among many many more. Hopefully I can tackle some older stuff too like Terminator Genysis for example.
During these projects, I want to run an EFAP podcast at least twice per month and have a few more audio commentaries for the channel.
So, 2019 seems exciting. As for the next update, it will be all about how Part 2 is doing and what it's all about. I have been working hard on it and I look forward to sharing it with you folks as well as when we can expect a timeline of releases for content in general.
2018 was amazing and i'm so thankful for you guys helping me achieve what I wanted to on this channel, i've made a huge amount of friends and learned a lot about how all of this content creation/fan interaction thing works.
I am hoping now that in January with holiday stuff calming down that I can speed this whole thing up but we have April on the way and let's just say I have plans :^)

Keep up your good work Mauler. I'm a french writter. Here, back in france we have some movie critics but they are lazy and "subjective" as you say :). I don't recognize myself anymore in any of these, so i come to your channel and i loved your work. Hope you keep going, and have a good day.

I though the objective v subjective intro was fine. A topic I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. Not my cup of tea but I learnt sumthin new I tells ya I did.

Hey Mauler sorry this is off topic but if you notice some patron's cards declining its affecting a few people with no clear reason how or why. I just had to repledge to all the people I am a patron for and was given no explanation why or how something went wrong.
Thank You very much for the great content throughout 2018, and shoutout to the people in your community that are more active than myself. Plans for 2019 sound exciting. I guess I need to start redoing a lot of EFAPing until April, to be able to get at least half of the references ^-^

Compared to before I made the TLJ series my time line has sped up significantly thanks to the support but I no longer use supplementary game-play footage, I search for relevant clips while maintaining additional projects and re-editing work to raise the quality. This process would be much slower if Patreon was unable to fun my work. I understand that it may seem slower but I am working each day on these projects to improve them and a lot more is on the way but it takes time to get it right.

Just rewatched the TLJ critique, and I can confidently say that almost everyone that hates on your videos hasn't actually watched them. When boiled down to the core, your argument is that certain movies are bad by a standard, where if said standard is not used, criticism and critics become pointless. We can quibble the details, but if a movie is so riddled with errors it will ruin the immersion, a necessary part of feeding whatever character arcs/themes there are to the audience. Watching a movie with good grounding in its own rules and levels of plausibility is like driving a car on a smooth road. It's so effortless that you can start thinking about your destination and all the great possibilities that this journey will bring you, without worrying about how. Watching The Last Jedi, Black Panther, The Predator or many of the other films you cover is like driving through a forest. Constant obstacles for you to worry about, distracting you from getting lost in thought, unless you sit there like some brain-dead sponge without any concept of what is even happening, staring at the pretty leaves and branches. TL;DR - never get in a car with Patrick H Willems. Looking forward to 2019.

Congrats on a big year mate. As one of my favourite channel finds at the tail end of 2018 it's great news to hear you'll be full steam ahead this year. Looking forward to the rest of the TFA series. You've pretty much addressed my only comments regarding that first video; I do think it would've been neater to have a part 0 introduction - particularly for new fans who will stumble across the videos in the months / years to come and find the lack of context regarding peer responses somewhat bewildering. Even though you do provide adequate context sometimes these things are 'of the moment'. Idk, just a thought. Speaking of, I wasn't initially on-board with such a comprehensive response to your fellow critical content creators as I felt it detracts somewhat. But, I've changed my mind, it's an important discussion to have openly. My only concern is this starts an exhaustive back and forth rally with a crystallised thesis from your side and juvenile babble from the other haha. Oh and I quite liked the backing music on the TLJ commentary. Any plans to tackle the DCEU, plenty of mileage there... cheers
