The Uub

Help I accidentally became a were-bat. Neat power.

Hmm, I get that. Elderwyck is the point where Nate ceases to be the person that things HAPPEN to, though. With everything that he's gained, and everything that he's accomplished, he's not just Grey's odd apprentice anymore. He's the man who killed a Calamity before he was even level 100. A small teaser that I'll say is that with VME, it's possible that Nate could blitz someone like Leonard and take them out if they're not expecting it. The brief surge of power is THAT good. The story isn't going to become a steamroll, but it's quite the trump card. Also, he just didn't get to see what his level 100 Skill is. I think I just messed up the wording on prompt and didn't make it clear enough. VME is explicitly from the Skill steal.

I'm sure you have plans and I'm looking forward to seeing how they play out, just to be clear, I like the story very much.

I understand that, but I wasn't really referring to the full transformation so much as that it even affects his look when it's turned off, and unless I'm forgetting how the system works, he also didn't get to choose what his ability at level 100 would be. He had his body and build forcibly changed outside of his will, that's what bothers me. Though I'm sure he'll pull himself together and make the best of the bad situation, he did nothing to earn 99% of the shit he's been through other than be on the side of good, it's all basically just happened TO him, instead of him choosing.

In my mind, I'm considering it as not something you pull out all the time. Certainly not a permanent addition to every battle. Nate almost immediately transformed back, so he neither felt the strain of holding the skill nor did was he able to experiment with the additional abilities that it brings. I have a plot string I have in mind around VME, and it can be considered more of a 'curse' right now, but it's not intended to stay like that in perpetuity. VME is, if you're familiar with the reference, something similar to a 'Devil Trigger' from the Devil May Cry series. It's not intended to be a permanent build defining transformation in the vein of, say, a werewolf. More like a desperation move.

Gotta be honest, this is incredibly frustrating. I was hoping for some active skill that would be really useful with some tempting downsides, not something that changes him at a fundamental level, especially in a way that would probably make him a pariah. I hate that kind of lack of autonomy in general, but especially bodily autonomy. Ah well, maybe it won't turn out so bad somehow. Nate doesn't deserve all this.

Nomad

Damn that was a good chapter, that could definitely be seen as a curse but in my opinion it is mostly a gift.
