Two (Positive) Morning Updates!!

Thanks for all the support this year — it’s been a strong open. As you’ve seen with the recent Patreon-exclusive ‘Newsroom’ series that we created, we really care about giving you all a peek behind the curtain to see what’s going on in the off-camera C5 universe, as we’ve been trying our best to build a sustainable, yet rigorous workflow as opposed the pre-movie era wherein everything was stuck in a perpetual loop of off-camera chaos with very little ‘work’ actually getting done in lieu of touring, partying, and general LA socializing.
Tightening up this year and prioritizing the journalism above all else has opened a lot of doors to make real, tangible positive change in the lives of the people we document, so I wanted to share a couple updates.
Update #1) Momma Bear (Crip Mac’s Grandma) has confirmed that the $46,000 we were able to raise for his legal expenses and the costs associated with the upcoming birth of his daughter (Due 5/5/2024) are being distributed appropriately by C-Mac’s manager, Coach Warren. I really appreciated the opportunity to use my platform to help our an old friend and so if you donated to C-Mac’s GoFundMe, thanks so much. It is texts like this that make me feel like my job is worth it, and that as a community, we are moving beyond the hollow promise of ‘awareness’ being a justification for interviewing gang members, conspiracy cultists, and so on.
Update #2) This an email from the ‘Snappin Grannies,’ the duo of MAGA rappers who appeared in our recent episode, “Defend the Border Convoy,” to air their grievances about their Social Security Checks and share some transphobic and anti-migrant bars. I’m not sure how they found my email, but here is what one of them emailed me this morning. I was genuinely shocked to see that her viewing my episode, “Hopping the Border” genuinely changed her perspective on what she once called “illegal” immigration. This just goes to show that even in the most radicalized fringes, understanding and progressive learning is still possible and that mockery is almost the worst tool we have at our disposal for establishing mutual humanity between the indoctrinated consumer-groups we call electoral ‘political parties.’

Coming to the table with respect, an open mind, and honesty is what people should be doing to better understand each other and I see that happening in a lot of your videos. Just goes to show what that can do for those in not just our country (US), but globally as well. Keep doing what you are doing because the world needs to see more of it.

I really like that perspective; I have to remind myself when engaging with friends who have similar preconceived notions about the immigration issue is due to a lack of reliable information on the matter & those immigrating, what type of situation they are going through.
