Havasupai Uranium Mine Protest (Part 2/2)
🕑 Added 2024-08-24 21:15:53 +0000 UTCHere is the conclusion of our coverage of the protests surrounding the newly Pinyon Plain Uranium Mine, which was built overtop land considered sacred to the Havasupai People, a Native American tribe that has lived at the base of the Grand Canyon plateau for thousands of years.
I hope you guys found this series to be eye-opening, and I really look forward to doing more Native land rights issues in the future.

according to the liberal idiots we are supposed to just welcome everyone and be one big happy family and somehow the world keeps turning. eventually if it doesnt straighten out youre going to wake up a lot of americans and their gun stashes and take the matter into their own hands, they already try to prevent police from doing their jobs. At this point, i dont know why but it seems like the left wants a civil war.
trythinking
cus they are increasingly showing how left leaning they are

if they are breaking laws, then sue them, if they aren't breaking laws then you have to try and change the laws. Bitching about it being sacred land aint gonna do a damn thing about it though. And yeah its liberal hippie dumb ass people who always get on the bandwagon with zero knowledge thinking everyone is evil who makes the world go around.

Bro. That you all provide a mouthpiece to this message: I am grateful. I am grateful to the elder who could share the wisdom of his people and land. This is the absolute shit. Please keep on doing this work for all of us!

In Victoria 3, when I am passing a law, there is a random event that can happen, and it is "opposition brings forth old laws that restrict us from passing this law" u have 3 options, one of them, the point of this statement is as follows; "update this antiquated law as well" and it makes a few radicals but you increase chance of passing the law you want. the point is when these situations come up in real government, we should update the ancient laws, not simply adhere.

Greetings from germany and thank you for your journalism. I honestly think that the kind of journalism that you are representing is exactly the kind of journalism that we need in order to change the minds of people. We cannot let the right wing demagogues replace the legacy media without the journalistic method that you are in the process of realizing since you started your journey. It is a matter of life or death for democratic societies to follow the example of Channel 5 and actually try to hear what people have to say for themselves about the experience they are making, facing the capitalist overtake of every aspect of live. I adore your project and I hope that I will somehow be able to follow in your footsteps in bringing the truth of different kinds of peoples live experiences into the mind of the public. I wish you all the best for the continuation of your journalistic project and sincerely hope that in the future you will be recognized as one of the cornerstones for bettering the general conditions we all have to face.

If a law is 170+ years old, that says our legal system is antiquated

Hey great video Andrew, only constructive critisim is that I don't like feeling abject despair when faced with the overwhelming inertia of the nearsighted corporate empire I live in. Thanks. Otherwise fantastic, please share the elders message publicly.

Honest question: doesn’t anyone else think that foreign threats are a legit thing to worry about? I’m as apprehensive of big wigs getting rich off of war as anyone else, but we DO need weapons and we DO need defence. I wish we lived in a world where we didn’t, but we dont. Now that uranium supply is blocked from Kazakhstan, what else are we supposed to do?

Can you please give some pushback on Jill Stein lying about the amount we spend on the military? It's 13%, not 50%. She is a lying Russian asset. Disappointing to see from you https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/federal-spending/

"At least", as if it's better that it's out of sight, out of mind. If anything it should be happening locally. At the end of the day what goes around comes around so

if you're interested in doing more native land rights issues, look into the CPL pipeline being built on Wetsuwetin land in Northern BC. I work up in Smithers and the pipeline is a very controversial issue rn in Canada that I think needs more coverage.

Important to note that the mining is being allowed because of a series of court decisions that are allowing it to happen. I'm sure the Federalist Society's packing of the courts has something to do with this. https://apnews.com/article/travel-business-environment-and-nature-forests-arizona-863b8723c51bc41135ca9fd99254e424

I could listen to the words of the Havasupai tribe all day. After all these people have been through, their message is so concise and peacefully delivered. What I want to understand is when will greed cease? When will people stop taking everything possible? It’s not necessary and it doesn’t bring anything but pain

I didn't think I owed my ancestors anythings, thanks Andrew, cool message at the end.

Thank you for posting this! I visited the Havasu falls a few times as a teen, very beautiful area and the tribe was so welcoming. It is heartbreaking to see the mining practices contaminating the environment; I would really like to see more surveys conducted to determine how widespread the effects are. While I don't argue their anecdotal evidence I would like to see the real data.

I read the autobiography of Jewel Kilcher (the folk singer Jewel), and there is a section in there where she is traveling around by the Grand Canyon, and the car breaks down, and she and the person she is with end up staying with the Havasupai. They had to hike 6 hours to get to them, and while there she ended up running a mule train to ferry supplies and mail to and from the top of the canyon. She also described the incredible mineral bath there. I had no idea they existed until I read that, and now two months later, this story here. I hope they survive this.
Sam
Thank you for bringing awareness to this.

What a strong message at the end. Selling this mining to people "for creating jobs" or "its for defense against russia" is just so sad. The people leading such an operation dont care about human lifes one bit.
Adam Cade
would've rather heard his poetry at the DNC than the poetry we ended up with. If that speech doesn't make you an environmentalist citizen of the Earth idk what would. wish we could unite against these systems.

I believe in the idea of moral convergence. The idea that as a whole, humanity learns and moves forward. But this convergence only happens when people stand for their rights and the reach and awareness of said issue grows, so as a new patron, I thank the Channel 5 team ❤️

Thank you so much for putting this important report together. This is real journalism and the message was clearly conveyed. It's so heartbreaking to hear what the indigenous people have already gone through and what they're dealing with now. However, after all the pain and suffering, they're still fighting for what's right. The repercussions of these mining activities will be felt for generations if something is not done.

HIS MESSAGE AT THE END IS BEAUTIFUL & MEANINGFUL. WE COME FROM OUR ANSCESTORS AND ARE BLESSED TO BE HERE & KNOW THAT, SO ITS AN HONOR TO ALWAYS DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR OURSELVES BY HONORING OUR PAST.

Hi Elton, I’m writing a research paper on contamination of soil, water, and air for my environmental science class in undergrad currently. I’d really like to talk to someone that’s in the field working on this actively, so if you know of a public USGS corporate email or a phone for their department you could share I’d very much appreciate the help.
