Crip Mac Sentencing

In this episode we'll document the sentencing of Mr. Trevor Hurd, otherwise known as Crip Mac, a long-time friend of the show who was arrested on federal charges around six months ago, relating to unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm.
Shortly after his arrest, we learned that the U.S. Government was trying to sentence him to fifteen years in prison using a 'career criminal' enhancement. For multiple reasons, we took issue with this and so decided to raise over $45,000 in legal defense funds to get c-mac a solid criminal defense attorney. We ultimately landed upon an attorney named Deion Benjamin, who represented Mr. Hurd in this trial.
If you donated to C-Mac's legal defense fund, thank you so much. I've held off on giving you all all updates on this case until we had a solid update, but now we do.
I don't want to spoil anything in regard to how much time the judge gave him, so just go ahead and watch the video and let me know how you feel about his sentence.

I think you’re chill to leave that in actually. The probation terms don’t apply till he is released and this is going to be HARD for him to break these habits, but he has 33 months to do so. I’d add a section mentioning this, how it’s his identity, how hard it will be, and maybe a call with him asking him about it then it will be perfect. We can’t pretend c Mac doesn’t have a problem here we just gotta be real and call this out. Think it does HIM a disservice to try to pretend he can keep doing what he has been doing with those terms. Frankly, I’d re cut your ending where you call him crip Mac and use his real name instead to start this transition.

I feel like this was a 15 year sentence how could he possibly continue the podcasting career he was starting without referencing gangs? How could he do youth intervention in gang areas without mentioning gangs? He needs to move to Vermont and just work a quiet private job basically and maybe that is the judges point?

Dude got a gift but its about 95% certain he is going to violate his terms and end up back in there. He cant help but say gang shit every 3 words. And from what I have seen, he didnt even grow up in a bad area like his lawyer claimed. He basically went out looking to get in gangs and looking for trouble. He made it his whole life and I wish him the best but no way is he gonna pass that probation without violating it.

Does anyone else think it's pretty crazy that they can just demand that he stop associating with people who are seemingly a major part of his life, or he goes back to prison immediately? How is that even enforceable to a reasonable degree without immense invasion? Obviously I don't have all the context, but that part feels pretty unreasonable.

I was really surprised. One of the last cases from this judge and she went out with a lot of grace towards him. I think he got really lucky and she could have went really hard, and maybe deservedly so. 4 months later he’s got a gun, and you know he was strapped from the beginning so that was just the gamble he knew he was making. As to the re-invention of himself as part of the sentencing, I think it comes from a good place and he could make those changes but man is that going to be HARD for him. He will lose all his support except family and that’s a big loss and shedding the 55 bullshit will be really hard, honestly he will Probably have to move out of LA or go to the valley once he’s able.

I really hope Trevor can stop portraying himself as CripMac, and adjusts his vernacular. I thought the sentence was relatively fair until the stipulation that the defendant should not associate with "55", Crips, etc. after release. That's gonna be rough for CripMac, er...I mean Trevor.
