Rapto

I love the lemon window and want to make one myself. Also, i love a sauna and sauna culture. I want to make one for my back yard and a port-a-potty sized one would be perfect.

Larysa Jaworski

Hey, Simone, No idea why, but I'm just seeing this now... Scraps is looking amazing, as usual <3 However, I just wanted to mention, in case you aren't aware (you probably are aware of this, but I'll feel better saying it, in case you aren't) - tennis balls are problematic for dogs, unless they're just being thrown/chased, but shouldn't be left with the dog. They can grind down the teeth (this happened to a dog of mine about 30 years ago, before we were aware this was an issue). There are a few other issues with them, but I went and found an article explaining what I meant: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/advice/are-tennis-balls-safe-for-dogs/ and https://positively.com/contributors/whats-safer-a-tennis-ball-or-a-ball-made-specifically-for-dogs/ One other question about Scraps - when you built her glorious photo booth house, did you mean to paint the inside with the Ukranian flag?? :)

David Gallo

The lemon window is so great! Have you thought about adding a motor to it so you can get it to automatically slide open?

Richard Jernigan

Simone: quite aside from the great window, I wanted to thank you for trying such a novel approach! I honestly had never even thought of trying to make a strained glass panel, but you've immediately made it look like a great thing to try out. Thanks!

Tristan

Simone! That lemon window is incredible!!!

Wesley McIntire

Lava window sounds way more challenging!

Suzanne Rush

but the colouful window would also be great as the colours would constantly be changing and it would be like a combination of a kaleidoscope and stained glass window. would the heat of the sun be sufficient to move the colours around?

Suzanne Rush

What brilliant ideas and how cute is scraps! I think both projects are great ideas, if you had a sauna as small as a portapotty it could be handy as you could fit it nywhere.

Patrick Lee

Shenanigans with blue rooms at their heart must be completed in time for the week before Labor Day.

Allison B

Sounds like a moving stained glass window ! I love the colours and look of stained glass. It always makes me feel happier and cheerful when I see it. Looking forward to seeing this project !

Matt Schwoebel

Dog talk - I have begun the 5 stages of financial concern that the puppy I adopted, Arnor, could be part Irish Wolfhound. 😳

Mate Navay

Both… we need both. The window does sound a bit more urgent, so maybe that one first. But both, please 😂

Robin Holden

Please tell me your arm is poking out of a Slanket in that picture!

Faruzo

Wow, That sauna sounds like a bomb of a project. Just make it well insulated, cause that PE or what those are made of, might become soft at proper sauna temps. The source of heat wil be a challenge, too. And about the frightening idea of "dual use": It would be a hell of a ventilation/sealing/insulation effort, but sounds like a lot of fun. I would test it anyway. PS: is the concept of sauna even considered in your current region? :D

Guy Mason

I feel like I've seen the portapotty spa at burning man, but that's cool

Gary Levario

I'm an oilfield worker in west Texas, a porta potty sauna is in fact just a porta potty in a West Texas summer. I've come out of those completely drenched in sweat 🥵

PT

Yay! Congrats on getting reinspired!

Kathrin Leppek

Great you overcame your creative constipation. Can't shake that #1 is inspired by the Mission Reboot and its tiny saunas. As a sauna fan I find them too cramped, but maybe with a glass door? Or maybe not.

caroline giertz

How about a Bastu-Maja with a lava window?

Anton Steenken

Booth sound pretty great actually! I would really like to see if it is possible to build and what your touch would be on such a lava-window in this space and how it you look in the end. Possibly even make it with a backlit option to have a beautiful light at night when plamp is asleep 👀

Viniter

What terrifies me about the sauna idea is that you used the word "also"... Does this implies it fulfills both functions? At the same time? Do people occasionally reach into the hole with a ladle and pour a little bit of the nightmare soup over the hot coals to make steam? Is that what you're envisioning?

Fredrik Johansson

The Basta-Maja is genius. Hope you get a new one to rebuild instead of a pre owned.

Anne ROBERTZ

Project 2 feels more exciting. It can make it look like you have a passage way to a different world/dimension in your ceyling 😃 Project 1 feels 'too' practicle at this point... Needs more weird and/or fun 🤪

Mariano Cerrato

Could you please PLEASE NOT do the 1st one....just the image of a steaming dude inside a porta potty is enough...(is seared in my brain for life so thank you for that)....I know that your instincts BEG you to built the 1st one... I implore you to NOT trust your instincts this time....at least for this poor bastard follower of yours....lol....Thank you for reading this. :)....Keep up the awesome work you do Simone we LOVE YOU!!!

John DeJarnatt

I like both but the lava lamp comes out first in my mind. You'll have to have waterproof toilet paper in the sauna... Oh, wait. That won't work very well. :)

Ben Harper

It's the word "also" on the dunny that has me concerned! Those things are hot as hell anyway (at least in Australia) so the sauna should be easy but don't also make it a funny, steaming hot shit and piss is not great.

xPir8x

Can the sauna be a Tardis call box instead? Or an all-glass American phone booth would be funny as hell! Just glass, steam, barely visable person and a pay phone! ...which hopefully connects to other sauna booths elsewhere.

xPir8x

I want that windohole to the storage loft to have a device of some sort just projecting shadows of Lovecraftian things onto the visible wall up there as if random creatures were living in your storage space! But maybe they are doing cute things like knitting or reading books?

Ian Nicholls

I like the lava-light. I reckon some infra-red LEDs at the lower edge might provde enough heat. It'd need to be well insulated from the weather, or be summer-only.

Simone Giertz

🤯

Greg Baker

"Imagine a porta potty... but it's also a sauna" No... no no, you can't make me. In summary, no. I'm going to assume you don't want "also" in that sentence? Like, it's "porta" but not actually a "potty". Please tell me.

Nathan Harling

"Bajsa sauna"? "Bajsa bastu"? (I used Google translate to make this joke, so I take credit if it's funny but blame the computer if it's not funny.

Suzukaze

Go for it!

ERIC JENKINS

You are a delight. thanks for the weird shit you do. You may want to watch Alec talk about lava lamps. https://youtu.be/16gB2BDXwTo

Casey Kikendall

Suggestion for the sauna: if you go with a handicap accessible porta potty you would be able to get 3 or 4 people seated at once.

Simone Giertz

The mental discomfort is my favorite part of the joke tbh!

Simone Giertz

My favorite path forward so far is a peristaltic pump!

Joe Langley

I've seen saunas that size back in the days of competitive sauna (NSFL, don't attempt). I'm not sure if they were meant to be portable though.

Simone Giertz

Oh I see what you mean now! I didn’t read carefully enough!

Richard Jernigan

Well, first, your numbering scheme is backwards: surely the porta-potty project should be #2? Anyway, an idea for what to build into your thin liquid-window project: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304338451375

Edward Iglesias

Assuming you mean Hot Shit Sauna, I made it up. Feel free to use.

Chris Wilken

A friend of mine had a window up high and used https://www.home-assistant.io/ to adjust the blinds in front of it, It would move up and down to block the direct sun, It would also adjust the angle of the blinds to let in how much light you wanted. You could take it a step further and have it open/close the window itself. I also like the idea of smart glass that can turn opaque with a switch. Then you could throw some kind of projection on the back side. I have a cube end table made out of opaque plexi glass, I put the house projection bulbs in it and change it up whenever. I'll stop now, I could keep going ;-)

Emma Percival

also maybe the portasauna could be linked with the camper somehow?? super deluxe guest accommodation??? idk

Suzukaze

I like the lamp idea a lot. Make me feel like I was in a Barbarella scene. The porta sauna, not so much. I think the brain will insist on a chemical smell, even though there are none involved. Kind of like how green gummi bears taste different then red, even though they aren't flavored. I think it would totally work if it looked like something else, but I think people are programmed to what is inside a porta potty.

Emma Percival

Love!!! Bring on the sky lava

David Weintraub

I agree with the other posters. Project #2 (Not the “Number 2” project) sounds great. You can have a track it slides up and down to open and close the window. That way, you could open it for ventilation. Use a remote to operate it. Maybe use an under utilized button on your TV remote. The Lava Lamp idea may not work. Lava Lamps generate a lot of heat to melt the wax and get the convention currents going. I suggest a wave machine mechanism like this: https://YouTube.com/watch?v=LbZVZbYP7_0

Brian Makepeace

A lava lamp that you look up through sounds amazing, and also super tricky. So many of those visual gadgets use vertical falling dynamics for their effects and looking up underneath that it seems like you'd be missing a lot of the action... But maybe like a transparent tray above the water tank, a tray that rocks back and forth slowly on a cam? Coloured oils or similar that don't mix with eachother? Using the slight incline of the tray to get gravity to give you your sideways motion across the tank window? I'm now wondering how they stop the coloured oils from mixing in those Mathmos projectors. Maybe each colour is given it's own layer to move through? https://www.mathmos.com/mathmos-space-projector-light-with-lava-lamp-1516-0.html Good luck! Can't wait!

Ryker Youd

While I am excited about both of these projects I mostly came to comment on how much I love your dog. Scraps gives me life!

Simone Giertz

I haven’t heard of that! Links pls

Drew Grove

The window idea sounds cool. Another idea would be to create a kaleidoscope type effect that would change by the motion of opening and closing the “window”. I like barn door type system you suggested. As for the first idea, you should just challenge us the come up with the best name for it…:)

Dom

Is the sauna actually intended for dual-use as a toilet, or is more the porta potty shaped aesthetic that you want for a standard sauna? Either way I'm more on board than maybe I should be

Kiren Ovady

I think you are absolutely onto something with the portasauna. If this were a thing, I would need 2 things from it. 1. To in no way smell like porta pitty chemicals 2. Be less claustraphobic somehow. A hot portapotty in the sun is already a thing and that is traumatic 🤣

Christopher Asbury

I'm all for the sliding window as long at it requires you to stand on a barstool wearing your one pair of high heals to slide it open and closed. =D Then you can water the plamp and give it some extra sun at the same time.

Edward Iglesias

Okay, was that Anthony Bourdain in your Hot Shit Sauna? I mean, I approve of grave desecration and all...

Simone Giertz

I am thoroughly disappointed in myself, and equally proud of you.

Luis Torrefranca

The window idea sounds pretty cool. Want to see how that turns out.

Simone Giertz

Was indeed incredibly worth watching! Thanks for the tip!!

James Morehead

I like Number Two... and I mean the second idea, not Number Two related to the first idea...

Karl Arp

You missed a great opportunity with the Porta-sauna by not making it project #2.

Simone Giertz

It’s an access point, so I’d add a slide to the window! Like a barn door type mechanism.

Simone Giertz

I would 100% use it!

Taylor Pridgen

All in on the window. Not that a sauna would be bad at all, but man that groovy glass sounds super cool.

Tree Carcass Mangler

I think both are great. The portasauna! And a lava window. We can always turn to you for something fun.

Rose Lavino

You know I never thought I’d want to see a Porta-potty sauna in my life but now I think I need it

Gavin

for #2, diyperks did a whole video on making artificial light, and water and reflecting. Might be worth peeking at for ideas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bqBsHSwPgw

Selene Munroe

Can't wait to see how the window turns out! So many cool options!

Russell Peake

Is the idea for project 1 a porta sauna complete with its own awkward social interaction, or is it still intendes to be used as a potty? As for the window idea it sounds fun - though if you are adding something like a tank on there, have you thought about the impact of the liquid to the extra plamp light? Also is it an access point into the room above or just a weird hole?

Steven J Flebbe

The window idea sounds great! I'm not sure about the porta-potty. I think I'd be wondering where the big cloud of hot steam was coming from...😆

Stephen Hager

I'd say that idea number 1 would be hilarious IF (and this is important) you can get someone to actually humor you and use it for the video.

Greg Dash

I love the lava lamp window idea! Your creativity is endless!

Shayleah Funk

2 things: will the liquid in the tank cause a prismatic effect that could do damage? I understand neither water, nor prisms. Also, I NEED a portasauna (this literally sounds like a dinosaur). Catch me googling how much portapotties are.

Justin McMurry

My vote goes towards jellyfish window. Would be a cool addition to the room.
