A bit late, but in the Fallout Universe you usually play one certain character, but you can choose his special skills called SPECIAL Strengh Perception Endurance Charisma Intelligence Agility Luck The Ghoul sadly will be a Ghoul forever. I have not heard of a cure for them.

You make your own character in Fallout. Your character will have a certain backstory but mostly you can be whatever kind of character you want.

BTO baby - You ain't seen nothin yet... anyway the fallout games 3, NV and 4 are all open world RPGs, yes there is a storyline BUT this is cinema it is all storyline If you want to compare it to something game wise then TLOU is a better fit because it is a Storyline driven Survival... the closest to what you are seeing is Fallout 4... and you can be one of the million new Lucy characters that have sterted the games after this series came out...

Play the games, Fallout: New Vegas is the best story easily, if you are well seasoned with games and their mechanics (Especially if you were a gamer around 2010 - 2011). Fallout 4 is the best mechanics wise, definitely the easiest for beginners to jump into.
