And this is a great set up for The Blue Spirit episode to show how Aang and Zuko are similar, both on a journey to redeem themselves.

I'm new to the series and catching up. but this episode is arguably in my top 5 throughout the series. POWERFUL story in an engaging way that still has humor without taking away the impact and balancing the dark and lights of both characters by having zukos hopeful in contrast to aangs trauma and then the flip with seeing zukos trauma after aangs tale has been given allowing us to breathe between both trauama.s beuatiful episode all around eidting voicing all of it.

It’s really important to keep in mind, in this whole show, both Zuko and Aang are the main characters ❤️ That’s why all of the episodes are half and half
AllyBoo124
Zuko’s story breaks my heart. He was only 14 and didn’t fight back while his father stood in front of him and burned his face in front of a full audience. And his father sent him on this mission never truly believing Zuko would ever capture the avatar as he had been missing for 100 years. Like it’s so terrible
AllyBoo124
Only master airbenders get the blue arrow tattoo, aang is the youngest person to master air bending which is why none of the other kids have one but the elders do
Nightmareman99
As other said the arrow is just the sign of a master Airbender. If I remember correctly to become a master you must invent your own airbending move, Aang invented the air scooter making him the youngest airbending master at the time. He was later replaced by Jinora from The Legend of Korra, Aang’s granddaughter
Nightmareman99
I will say that the live action series did Zuko’s part of this episode as good or better with the context they added to his character. While on the otherhand they did Aang’s part much worse. Changing the whole plot of Aang running away to him simply wanting some air. It took away all of the trauma of his character. Also you should recognize the voice actor for the firelord. It’s fkin Mark Hamill!!! Dudes was has played Luke, The Joker, and even the gd Fire lord dudes truly a legend
colton Lem
Arrow tattoos are for mastering airbending has nothing to do with the avatar
Scottie
Zuko was always the victim, never the villian.
Alex Hefner
wow that's a really cool point! fuck man. i wish i thought of that
Jessica
I love how the two flashbacks were the complete opposites from each other, Aang running away from home and Zuko being banished from home
Marina
ooh sorry, I just noticed that there is a time difference in Hawaii
Rocky Cortez
Yes Aang would stil be the avatar without the tattoo.... the tattoo is something the airbenders get when they reach "mater status"I think I might remember that wrong but they are airbending tattoos and has nothing to do with being the avatar.... Ruko didn't have them fx
Marina
heyy me n friends r waitin' for the world war Z reaction u better be postin' rn we cant wait no more😭🫡

Aka the Joker

To clear things up, the arrow has nothing to do with the fact that Aang is the Avatar, it means that he is a Master of Air bending (well being the avatar help to master element) but other monks can be master too without being the avatar, You become a Master when you masterise all techniques and create a new one (the air scooter ball he does in the intro) Plus fact : Aang is the youngest air bender to became a Master and receiving the arrow

The more you watch, the more you'll see. Ahh i can't wait for book 2: earth
Joovain
Fire Lord is voiced by Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker
Naomi Amayu
Zuko is my favorite character in the whole show. Just you wait
Halima
When Katara says “the Avatar gives people hope” in such a positive way and then Iroh says “the Avatar gives Zuko hope” but in a much more somber and sobering way – chills
Halima
The fact that Iroh knew it too makes their bond that much more special. He basically banished himself just so Zuko wouldn’t be alone.
Oliver
The best episode of s1 period
Daniel Milne
thats actually all humans for the smell part, which is pretty cool tbh. We have something like a 200,000x better ability to pick up the smell of rain than sharks do with blood for example. We detect something called geosmin (had to look it up forgot the name)
Oliver
Finally. The start of Zukos unbelievable phenomenal Charakter Arc 👏 the best written Character of all time
Ethan Schwenzer
He discussed this in a Q&A. He doesn’t because it makes it a nightmare for his editor.
Ethan Honza
Something that always gets me is the Avatar was gone for 100 years. No way Zuko’s father ever expected him to succeed, I’ve always seen it as him telling Zuko to find Bigfoot.
Zombieki11er451
I did

Hey Alex. I think you should try to pause sometimes when you talk about what's going on. I feel like you might miss a couple of things when the characters are saying something. Just a suggestion.
Charlie Fontana
Ur sad that you only watched 4 episodes? Watch more!! Also love how much you like zuko already
Trollofduty007
Fun fact! The Fire Lord is voiced by Mark Hamill! (Luke Skywalker)
Charles Walker
Dude you aren’t ready for late s2-s3 Zuko. There’s one episode that really fucks me up 🏝️(iykyk)
Jake Rush
This episode is top 5 if you count all the multi part episodes together
Mr.Baron von waggy pants
I'm actually glad they did this episode cuz it helps us understand zuko's anger.
TokyoLopez
This episode directly after the great divide lmao insane
Alex
When you get done with most of the shows your watching I think you should give once upon a time a watch or lock and key
crackdobby
As an airbender, you can earn your master tattoos either by mastering all the airbending forms or inventing an entirely new airbending technique. Aang invented the air scooter (that little air ball he like to ride around on) thus becoming the youngest master airbender in history up to that point. Also, when he's in the avatar state, his tattoos glow because they are directly on his xi pathways. For non-airbender avatars only the eyes glow, as you saw with Roku. I felt comfortable yapping this much because none of this is explicitly explained in the show
Cole Romero
Yeah its actually crazy. Old ppl can just sense the weather from anything. I can mainly feel the weather changing by the way it smells outside. Something I got from mh grandparents I think
Josh
Luke Skywalker himself voicing fire lord Ozai
Hello There
This and the next episode are probably my favorites of the season. Also, fun fact—that’s Luke Skywalker himself voicing Fire Lord Ozai!
Daniel Nordbø
The arrows are a sign of an airbender master. Notices how the monks have them. He was just very young when he got them.
Brooklyn
Hey Alex! Just to help answer your question: Aang has the arrow because he earned the tattoos after mastering airbending. Notice all the older air nomads have it . Aang mastered air very young
Red powers
As a kid you would think it'd be cool to be in Aang's position but as an adult you actually do feel bad for Aang. It's sad because Aang was gonna be sent away by the one person that looked out for him. But everyone he knew was ripped away from him regardless. This show is really dark with a lot of adult topics in it that a child wouldn't care or notice.
Mr.Baron von waggy pants
Yeah this is one of the sadder episodes
Chess Red Eagle
Kind of amazing that we go from one of the most hated episodes to one of the absolute best episodes back to back. I think this is when people really realized that this show was something special. It's a masterpiece.
Ryan Locke
One of my favorite episodes
