I know this is hella late, but if someone is still watching there's a cool backstory to this. I saw the original post on reddit/quora but cant find it, however: in Japanese, ko means face, hence the name Koh the Facestealer. there's also some mythological creatures (something starting with "bo-____" that appear as faceless creatures causing mischief. they first appear wearing a face, and then show their faceless form to incite an "emotional" response. there's also a big story with one of these "bo-something" where a Japanese fisherman was constantly warned by one of them to not fish in a sacred koi pond, yet he kept doing so, and was ultimately punished. so you have Koh, the ocean/moon spirits as koi, and Zhao as the foolish fisherman. I wonder how many other episodes have drawn from cool mythologies and stories like this. Man, the more I learn about this show, the more epic it gets. It's crazy how the most of minute details (like the one above) have such crazy depth. The creators really did a fantastic job. 11/10

Also its quite interesting that Korra is related to her aswell. Yue is the daughter of the chief of the northern water tribe and Korra's father was formerly the firstborn sun of the chief of the watertribe before he got banished give or take a few decades later.

Yeah man it’s hard to pick one part when the story just keeps building. Water introduces you to the world and origins of the characters Earth is the bulk of the journey with each character discovering something about themselves. Then Fire is just the conclusion and satisfying build up to everything previously established in the show. Shits goated

Fun fact there are quite a few theories that Princess Yue was meant to be the avatar after Aang if he didn’t get trapped in ice. Water was the next nation in the cycle, Yue had a part missing when she was born some say it is the spirit of the avatar. The moon spirit saved Yue’s life

There's no point choosing a favorite book/season. The show in its entirety is too good to choose. The main reason it's split into the 3 books is to separate Aang's journeys to learn/master the other elements. Can't wait for you to see the rest!

I would agree entirely. Books two and three are better but this episode particularly was so nice. I just know he likes clone wars a lot and don’t think he realizes the interesting overlap. I also don’t mind filoni not being involved later on. I’m a Star Wars geek but books two and three are perfect as is

Finally getting to Book 2! Not to hate on Book 1 cause it is still amazing, but out of all 3 of the Books it's the weakest one IMO. Book 2 is where shit really hits the fan and my personal favorite character is introduced. Can't wait till next week!

Zuko’s sister is really one of my favorite characters of the show. It’s very easy to overlook her depth because she was born “lucky”, but she’s incredibly well written and has a very satisfying arc imo. My other favorite character is also introduced in book two ‼️ I can’t wait for you to meet them 💛

The way you can tell that this was done by Dave Filoni (the main director of Star Wars the clone wars) is because you see a giant ass wolf in the background in the spirit world. Dave Filoni has a thing for wolves

The Yin and Yang Spirits as you see them in this episode are actually fairly similar to the Dark Side Brother and Light Side Sister in the Mortis Realm in Clone Wars. The way that the spirit saved Yue (and vice versa) is in fact very similar to how the Light Side Sister saved Ahsoka in the Mortis Arc.

Alex, trust me, the entire fandom absolutely loves Zuko! Honestly, I’m sure Iroh and Zuko are the top two most loved characters of the whole series. I was a kid when this show came out, and watching Zuko’s story unfold really did leave a huge impression on the fact that the villain isn’t always a bad person. There’s more to it and this show does an amazing job of rounding out his character and showing that people can have flaws but they can also still be a decent human being.

It's bizarre. I think I have watched this show at least 30 times. And at moments like when Iroh was talking about his son, I still feel tears. And the moment Aang and the Ocean spirit merge I still feel the excitement in my body. This show is so great that those moments still hit! Even though I have watched it more than 30 times.

Hey alex just an fwi. When aang was the big blue fish at the end. That wasnt aang. When his eyes and arrow light up he in not in control. He doesnt know how to control the avatar state. At that moment with the big fish it was the ocean spirit taking over aang as a contruct to take revenge sir its other half the moon spirit got killed

BTW you saw Zuko's sister in "Storm" episode with Zuko dueling his father. 2nd. Zuko's sister is by far one of the best written characters next to Zuko just pay very close attention to her psychological. 3. The reason why Iroh knew Yui was touched by the moon spirit was because of her eyes her eyes where blue while everyone else's was Grey. And it did answer the question as to how Iroh was able to see Roku's dragon because he's been to the Spirit world.
