Avatar: The Last Airbender | Book 1 | Episode 15 - "Bato of the Water Tribe" (FULL EPISODE REACTION)

This was a really interesting episode too! I think, for me, this episode proved just how strong of a bond Katara, Sokka, and Aang all have with each other!
They pissed each other off, but actually were able to push past all that bullshit and realize that they are all just family at the end of the day!
Ok. I gotta hand it to you all. THIS SHOW IS ADDICTING! Like fuck man. I had no idea I was going to get this invested, to be 100% honest!
Thank you all for continuously showing me badass shows and movies!
Love you guys,
Alex

The live action adaptions failed because horrible creative decisions were made just for the sake of not copying the animated series

I also really enjoyed the Netflix show, a lot of people gave it shit but it was well done and I liked the changes they made
TacoMonsterNick
The live action movie sucked cuz they pronounced Aang like 'Awng' and Aang's tattoos were barely visible. I couldn't watch more than like 10 minutes. After hearing them mispronounce Aang's name, I was out. The bending effects might've also been a bit lackluster. As for the netflix series, I loved it. Ya, they changed some of the story elements around like where they meet Jet and some other characters you don't know about yet, but I'm fine with it cuz they hit the bending effects out of the park. They also added in the fire nation siege of the Southern Air Temple. It's worth watching just seeing that extra bit of lore realized, imo. The main downside is they made Katara less involved and not very impactful, bending or story wise.

Junes pet the Shirshu was given to her by her father and they’ve been together for 17 years so she’s at least 18 but most likely in her mid to late 20s

I love zutara and will be a proud zutara shipper until my last breath.
AllyBoo124
I have sooo many complaints about the live action show that I can’t get into until you finish book 1. And we all agree that the movie was a mistake
AllyBoo124
They were still always planning to stay with aang after they found out about the map. The real issue is the see aang as family and they haven’t seen their dad for years and held on to it for hoursss. Like bato still had to go meet hakoda. But they stick together and I love it
Nightmareman99
I mean while she is technically 112 year old he is still a 12 year old trying to deal with all that pressure plus hearing his friends talking about leaving him to do it alone

Cool fun lil fact about the movements used by the benders of each element: Earth bending—Based on Hung Gar, a Chinese martial art that emphasizes strong stances and powerful strikes. Hung Gar is based on animal movements, especially the tiger and the crane Firebending—Based on Northern Shaolin, a style that originated in the Shaolin Monastery in Henan, China. Firebending is about power and ferocity Waterbending—Based on tai chi. Waterbenders are adaptable and versatile, similar to water. Airbending—Based on baguazhang, for defense, evasion, and flying

I always find Bato's name interesting In English it's an anagram of Boat witch is fitting for the caracter (water tribe and all) And funny thing is that it fonction even more in French The word for boat being Bateau and pronounced Bato (Yeah we literally use 3 voyels to make the sound of a 4th one, make no sense but hey look fancy no ?). x)

Wait you’re right 😅 lol

I think the live action show is definitely worth it! I think they did well with telling the story with the amount of time they were given

I actually like the live action show. The effects for the bending is very good. Seeing the first episode of the live action definitely blew me away. The live action movie on the other hand… very bad at telling the story. I’m fine if things get changed for the sake of time, but changing things that are basic such as names or how bending works… is not great.
Psychotic Panda
live action show is goated just altered and slightly more real
renuzui
It’s close, but I usually see people refer to them as “Zutara” actually 😅

I don’t know about BADASS 😭

From what i read, June and her pet have been together for 17 years, given to her as a gift from her bounty hunter father when he was training her. That would prompt me to believe she's at least 18.
Lewis Herriett
june who controls the beeast nyla is around 15 apparently when googled
Trent Tellier
The fact he got to the Zatara ship name without anyone’s help is amazing 😂
Michael Shelton
Also, the live action shows effects to portray the bending. And all the crazy stuff is actually amazing, like, really, really amazing
Michael Shelton
The live action movie sucks because of the way that they changed the story. And the pronunciation of some names.
Michael Shelton
The live action show is really badass. It is nearly shot for shot the same as the anime... They just chop a couple of things back and forth differently than the show, even though the events that are happening are portrayed darn neared identically
Demon of Empire
Bato is voiced by the guy who played Victor Sullivan in the Uncharted Video Games.
Charlie Fontana
@1:30 Sokka, I ever tell you your smart?
DarnedStingray8
It’s just the earth bending dance routine
Danny Ramirez
Wait let him watch it after season 1 there may be spoilers lol
DarnedStingray8
I don’t know about you, but I don’t know anyone who would willingly watch that abomination twice.
renuzui
I think it’d be a funny reaction tbh. Plus when people start watching the show, I feel like it’s almost a rite of passage to have to suffer through the horrendous movie as well. Lmao
renuzui
Not zutara 😭😭 Alex have you learned nothing from star wars?!?!! Do not succumb to the dark side!!!!!!! 💀

Alex, if you need one good reason to NOT watch the Avatar live action movie (that definitely doesn't exist) just watch this 33 second video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdTekqoZjKc

I went to the theater to see an actual movie, but afterwards had to walk in on The Last Airbender to satisfy my morbid curiosity. Couldn't sit through more than 15 minutes. I did eventually watch it, but whoosh...to quote The Producers "Bad? It's an outrage!"
DarnedStingray8
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.

People give the movie shit because it's really HORRIBLE. When you finish this, you should watch. If for no other reason than to shit talk that trash. The live action Netflix series though is pretty good. It's a different enough experience to be fun for fans to watch, but still keeps the spirit of the series.
Walter
First, "petty" doesn't have an age limit. Second, Aang is physically and mentally 12. I don't think being frozen in ice 100 years did anything for his emotional development. Really enjoying your reaction to this series - thank you for covering it!
Joovain
Agreed, movie is so bad that i dont even know what to say about it LOL and Live Action show was good and soooo underrated IMO.
Chess Red Eagle
The live action movie is dogshit. Only watch if you're a masochist. The live action show is good. Not amazing but good and the OG cartoon will always be the best version. But it's still good. I enjoyed it and look forward to book 2. I think you should check it out and keep an open mind.
